The Synthetic Molecule Design and Development (SMDD) organization is responsible for the development of synthetic drug substances and drug products from the pre-clinical phase through commercialization. Our scientists and engineers develop innovative technical solutions to advance an exciting portfolio that includes small molecules, peptides, oligonucleotides, and other emerging therapeutic modalities. SMDD has an exciting opportunity for an Analytical Chemistry Research Advisor to join our multidisciplinary team of chemists, engineers, and formulation scientists. Empowered by access to world-class capabilities and extensive pharmaceutical development experience, you will help deliver technical solutions that enable deeper understanding of processes and products across the portfolio. Ideal candidates will possess experience across multiple analytical techniques (e.g., UHPLC, mass spectrometry, IR, Raman, UV, NMR), demonstrate an aptitude in technical problem-solving, and be motivated to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Position Responsibilities:
- Enable the design, development, and implementation of analytical methodologies for the characterization and analysis of oligonucleotides, peptides, and small molecules.
- Contribute to the establishment of robust control strategies through generation of data, development of analytical methods, and collaboration with internal and external development partners.
- Demonstrate proficiency in multiple modes of chromatography, mass spectrometry, optical spectroscopy, instrument engineering, or other analytical technologies.
- Develop strategies for instrument integration with automated data analysis workflows and process sampling interfaces.
- Engage with scientists across development and manufacturing to develop a deep understanding of new initiatives and improve existing scientific processes.
- Identify ground-breaking analytical technologies as well as trends in analytical chemistry, synthetic chemistry, and chemical engineering.
- Identify and exploit new scientific concepts, strong problem-solving skills, and be self-motivated to contribute across multiple projects.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills to speak to both technical and business-related implications of your work.
Basic Qualifications:
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related field.
Additional Skills/Preferences:
- Reversed phase chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, size exclusion chromatography, chiral chromatography, gas chromatography.
- Hands-on experience with mass spectrometry in the characterization and quantitation of synthetic molecules including oligonucleotides, peptides, and small molecules.
- Experience with data interpretation, including the application of chemometrics, multivariate modeling, and other data manipulation tools.
- Learning agility and demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to improve the understanding of chemical systems or improve analytical techniques.
- Ability to balance multiple activities, prioritize evolving project needs, and handle ambiguity.
