Position Summary:
Join our dedicated team as an Animal Control Officer, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of both animals and residents within the community. This position involves enforcing local ordinances, including rabies control and leash laws, and responding to resident concerns. As an Animal Control Officer, you will be on call 24 hours a day, approximately one week per month, which may include holidays. On-call weeks are assigned on a rotating schedule and include working a Saturday. This position requires both physical and mental effort in changing weather conditions.
Normal Shift: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (varies)
Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce ordinances, conduct investigations, and document findings related to animal control.
- Handle dangerous and injured animals, prepare animals for rabies testing, and perform dead animal removal and disposal.
- Assist with the care of impounded animals, including administering vaccinations.
- Participate in community education programs, including trap and bark collar loan programs.
- Issue court summonses, testify in court cases, and collect payments and fees.
- Respond to customer and resident inquiries, concerns, and complaints.
- Inspect commercial animal establishments, including kennels, pet shops, circuses, and grooming shops, in permanent locations and at temporary events.
- Manage nuisance wildlife concerns and removal efforts.
- Once a month, Animal Control Officers are required to be on-call 24 hours a day for a week and work the corresponding Saturday, which may include holidays.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a US citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
- Must be a High School graduate or GED certificate.
- Missouri Animal Control Association (MACA) certification or obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Rabies Pre-exposure Vaccination Series or obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License valid in the state of Missouri.
- Able to lift 60 lbs. independently.
