JOB DUTIES: Responsible for developing and implementing appropriate feeding and herd health programs to maximize production and improve animal healthcare for commercial dairy operation. Specific duties include: (1) monitoring dry matter intake and changing feed watch program to minimize waste; (2) adjusting rations to reduce milk fever, retain placentas, and address digestive problems in pre-partum cows; (3) implementing sick cow and vaccine protocols; (4) providing training on correct techniques to assist cows with obstructed labor; (5) reporting fresh cows and new born calves in Dairy Comp 305 program and maintaining herd inventory; (6) generating progress and cow movement reports, using data to implement measures that reduce metritis and minimize stress on cows and calves; (7) monitoring hoof treatment program, including identifying lame cows and ensuring proper treatment; and (8) overseeing calf feeders to ensure compliance with treatment, sanitation, and calf handling protocols.

Requirements:B.S. degree in Animal Science, Veterinarian Medicine, or related; and one year of experience within North American livestock industry.
