Job Description/Summary:
The Apheresis Program Coordinator utilizes a theory-based practice to provide clinical apheresis services and direct the apheresis program coordination for stem cell transplant patients and patients with chronic hemoglobinopathies at UCSF BCH Oakland. This position works collaboratively with the administrative and medical leadership of UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco and Oakland Apheresis Programs.
Position Requirements: Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
Minimum Experience:
- Three to five years apheresis nursing experience required.
- One year nursing leadership experience (i.e. Charge Nurse) required.
- One year Hem/Onc/Bone Marrow Transplant program experience preferred.
- Specialized educational preparation and/or extensive clinical experience in apheresis and the care of children and/or adults with hemoglobinopathies preferred.
- Completed apheresis training in a FACT-accredited program and conducted pediatric apheresis procedures independently with acceptable outcomes preferred.
License Required: Current California Registered Nurse license required
Certification Required: Current American Heart Association CPR certification (BLS). Qualification in Apheresis issued by American Society for Apheresis preferred or obtained within one year of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency with PC, word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and electronic medical record systems
- Advanced communication, interpersonal, presentation, and writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Good crisis management/prioritization abilities.
Technical Knowledge:
- Knowledge of apheresis procedures: red cell exchange, plasma exchange, photopheresis, MNC collection.
- Competence with computer systems and adequate skills for Electronic Medical Record use required
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Physical Requirements:
Sit: Up to 6 hours per day
Stand/Walk: 6-8 hours per day
Bend/Stoop: Up to 3 hours per day
Reach: Up to 6 hours per day
Repetitive Use of Upper Extremities: Up to 6 hours per day
Lift/Push/Pull: 25 pounds, over 25 pounds with assistance or equipment
