The primary responsibility of the Field Application Engineer will be to lead all technical customer interactions to secure design-in/win for ADTRAN's Optical Engines (AOE) portfolio of subsystems, modules and devices in collaboration with the R&D, PLM and Sales teams.
Principal Tasks include:
- Develop technical product description and specification documents with consideration of available industry standards (MSA, OIF, IEEE,…)
- Develop detailed "product positioning/value proposition" documents
- Lead technical product specification review sessions with the internal/external customers
- Lead customers' lab trial activities vis-à-vis providing the necessary documentation as well as timely support for all technical inquiries and on-site lab support
- Provide timely feedback on all technical customer interactions to internal ADVA constituency (PLM, R&D, Sales)
- Coordinate customer response and positioning to address unresolved technical issues
- Debug new products and help troubleshoot problems with customers. Act as interface between the customer and R&D for problem solving and corrective action/bug fixing
- Collect and provide market feedback and competitive intelligence/study to further improve AOE's product positioning
- Assist Sales/Business Development teams in the process of commercial negotiations vis-à-vis providing support/feedback on product related topics
Supplementary Tasks
- Support ADTRAN's Product Life Cycle process by providing technical feedback into various stages of business cases study, specification, design, qualification and manufacturing processes
- Support the company's presence in the standards communities (OIF, IEEE, MSAs,…)
- Support the company's RFx process as required to highlight AOE's portfolio
- Support AOE's various branding initiatives (tradeshow's, webinars…)
- Support ADTRAN's PLM/Marketing teams in generation of AOE/AON Product datasheets/collaterals
Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience
- Minimum of a bachelor's in electrical engineering or an equivalent degree
- Minimum of five years of relevant industry experience
- Deep knowledge of Optical subsystems/modules and components
- Working knowledge of various lab/test and measurement methods and systems (Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Logic, Analyzer, Function Generator, BER test sets,..)
- Knowledge of optical component reliability and telecom performance standards such as Telcordia, IEC, and ITU are highly desirable.
- Experience with coherent optical systems a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS-Project)
