Plumbers assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings and fixtures of water and drainage systems, according to plan specifications and plumbing codes. Our Plumbers fabricate, assemble, and install commercial plumbing components in jobs across the Asheville area. The successful candidate will have experience working well in large commercial/industrial worksites, strong professional skills, and a desire to grow in ability and responsibility. Next school year begins 2024 but you can start working before then.
Your Pay: Starting at $19 per hour. Performance and pay reviews at 90 days and then annually.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Assemble pipe sections, tubing, and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, and welding equipment.
- Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
- Study building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring.
- Perform complex calculations and planning for special or very large jobs.
- Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines.
- Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, and appliances.
- Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings, using hand and power tools.
- Install Hangers from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.
- Review blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
- May be asked to direct workers engaged in pipe cutting and pre-assembly and installation of plumbing systems and components.
- Install underground storm, sanitary and water piping systems and extend piping to connect fixtures and plumbing to these systems.
Experience, Training, and/or Certification:
- No prior plumbing experience required but is helpful.
- General knowledge of using tools such as tape measure, wrenches, screw drivers, etc.
- High School diploma or GED required.

- Proficiency in electrical and mechanical diagnostics.
- Familiarity with blueprint, schematic, drawings, and other equipment layout materials.
- Ability to pass a full background screening and drug screening.
- Ability to pass a physical ability test.
- Ability to travel, as needed, for projects.
