Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise lifeguard staff during day-to-day aquatic operations, during
special events, pool rentals, and weekly programming as directed by the
Aquatics Manager.
Schedule Lifeguard and Aquatic Lead staff and manage shift coverage for
day-to-day operations.
Responsible for Lifeguard communications involving scheduling, shift
coverage, and audits.
Work closely with the Aquatic Program Specialist and Aquatic Fitness
Coordinator to coordinate staffing needs with programming.
Assist the Aquatic Manager with interviews, swim tests, and new-hire
orientations.
Maintain the Lifeguard Certification spreadsheet, alerting the Aquatic
Manager of expiring certifications.
Report Lifeguard personnel issues to the Aquatics Manager, documenting
details.
Help plan and conduct Lifeguard in-services and preparatory training.
Oversee and conduct the Lifeguard audit system of training and maintain the
audit list.
Oversee scheduling and instruction of ARC Lifeguarding, CPR, and
Babysitting classes, and all administrative functions concerning those
classes.
Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment
for all members, visitors, and employees. Caution swimmers regarding
unsafe areas and actions.
Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of
action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any
signs of danger.
Must monitor and assist aquatic staff with proper radio calls and emergency
response.
Conduct regular audits of lifeguard staff on a rotation to help ensure proper
team response and preparedness.
Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
Provide first aid, rescue breathing and CPR when needed.
Respond to Code radio calls whenever possible to provide back-up support to
Lead Guards and ensure incidents are properly reported in a timely manner.
Maintain and review records and reports as assigned. Oversee that all incident
reports are properly completed and filed with Human Resources and the Aquatic
Manager.
Inspect and supervise staff cleaning and maintenance of swimming pool areas,
trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and
other areas as assigned, and performing cleaning as needed.
Provide great customer service to the community; see that all customers,
clients, and members are given prompt and courteous service.
Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
Must be able to supervise, advise, critique, and train staff under
supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers and
customers in person and over the phone. Must be able to communicate during
uncomfortable situations to address concerns with a customer or staff member.
See that staff liability injuries are reported timely and according to
procedure.
Maintain a safe working environment. Report all hazards to the Aquatics
Manager.
Must wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Aquatics Manager and exhibit a
professional appearance while on duty.
Other aquatic assignments as required.
General Qualifications and Proficiencies:
21 years of age preferable.
Must be able to read, write and communicate proficiently in English.
Must be able to work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings,
weekends, holidays, and split shifts.
Experience working with the public.
Demonstrate the ability to relate positively and energetically with staff,
clients, members, and customers. Ability to be self-motivated, work
independently and in a team environment. Must also have effective
communication skills and engage positively with the public.
Must have at least two years of experience as a lifeguard.
One year's prior experience as a head lifeguard, or equivalent highly
desirable.
Must have prior to start of employment, and must maintain current
certifications in the following:
American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
American Red Cr ss CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification to include
AED
American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification
American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens within 90 days of hire
Preferred Certifications to work toward include:
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification
American Red Cross Lifeguard Management certification
CPO certification, highly desirable.
WSI certification, highly desirable.
Emergency Response or other advanced first aid, desirable.
Must have excellent computer skills and experience working with Microsoft
Office products including Word and Excel.
Meet all health and safety regulations defined by the Health Department and
TSA.
Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent
with that of the Center and TSA.
Can work with children, parents, and staff in a leadership and instruction
education capacity.
Physical Requirements:
Must maintain minimum fitness level to be able to accomplish the following:
300-yard continuous swim
Tread water for 2 minutes without the use of hands
