Aquatics Director - Barber National Institute

About the Job
The Aquatics Director is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the natatorium and its adjacent areas, including the locker rooms, deck space, spectator seating, storage areas and filtration rooms. This role is key to producing a safe and friendly atmosphere while enforcing rules and regulations and supervising a team of Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors.
Responsibilities:
- Establishes team and individual staff goals by gathering and analyzing pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information.
- Develops plans for team needs including forecasting resource requirements, preparing a budget, scheduling expenditures, monitoring financial reports, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective action.
- Updates expertise through professional development, participating in professional educational opportunities, reading industry-specific and management publications, and taking part in professional organizations.
- Responsible for daily pool operations, program evaluations, budgeting and ensuring the natatorium is a safe environment for BNI clients and participants.
- Create and promote special events to use the pool. Develop relationships within the community and create revenue producing programs.
- Collaborate with BNI Directors and Program Managers to create pool programs and activities to accommodate our individuals’ needs.
- Supervise and develop aquatics team members, Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors. Monitoring staff productivity, providing constructive feedback and coaching. Train and mentor new employees and communicate changes to aquatics team. Create and foster a team culture which is centered on achieving goals with a high level of customer service.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local aquatic laws and regulations. Ensure compliance with pool operations and staff certifications and training.
- Communicate effectively through reporting regarding the Natatorium and participate in management committees, attend monthly safety committee meetings and other meetings as necessary.
- Maintain facility records and reports, including staff certifications, pool maintenance, hourly transactions, funds, student skills and program attendance records, and other related information.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in Leisure, and Recreational Facility Management; Therapeutic Recreation; Public Health, Business or related field; experience in the operation of an aquatics center required. Supervisory experience preferred.
- Certified Pool Operator, American Red Cross CPR and Lifeguard Certification, WSI Certification also required. Certification in general fitness, exercise and therapeutic classes a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Must possess good judgement, ability to multitask and organizational skills. Must be able to properly and safely operate equipment.
- Valid driver’s license required
- Eligibility for State Police Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse History Clearance
