Hiring Range is $41,159 to $46,372 annually based on qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.
Position Summary:
Under close supervision of the Aquatics Manager, this position’s primary responsibility is to conduct routine cleaning, maintenance, technical repair and operation-related tasks for the pools located at three indoor recreation centers and four outdoor pools to assure safe and sanitary conditions. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.
Essential Duties:
- Maintains aquatics division pools, filtration/chemical systems, decks, fixtures and equipment in accordance with the Colorado Swimming Pool Regulations and MAHC standards. Works in coordination with District Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Coordinators to ensure all equipment is kept in working order and a safe environment is upheld.
- Regularly checks and performs basic repairs, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and general pool equipment operations at all aquatic facility locations.
- Responsible for following up to ensure proper daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checklists and logs work according to protocols.
- Responsible for the overall cleanliness and safety of the pool facility and associated mechanical and chemical areas. This includes assisting with any necessary janitorial duties during the assigned shift.
- Completes all daily maintenance, incident/accident reports, and inventory logs according to District procedures in a timely manner.
- Maintains proper pool chemical levels at all times in compliance with local, state, and national standards and keeps accurate records of chemical readings.
- Maintain filters, back wash and pumps according to established procedures.
- Set up and tear down for aquatic lessons and events and pre/post season work especially in Spring/Fall for Outdoor Pools.
- Provides a variety of general information to the public regarding parks and recreation operations and programs.
- Recognizes emergency and dangerous situations by reacting quickly and calmly; administers first aid as needed.
- Responds tactfully, respectfully and in a timely manner to inquiries and problems in person, through email, phone and mail by providing helpful information and explanations in-line with District policies and procedures. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or stressful interactions.
- May be required to fill in for absent employees, covering lifeguard duties to ensure operations continue smoothly.
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with District employees, vendors, various outside user groups and associations to coordinate their programs and special events.
- May be required to obtain additional training if needed to do preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
- Attends work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.
- Must be able to work a variety of shifts which may include early mornings, weekends, midday, evening shifts, some holidays, and on-call.

Education and/or Experience:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Six (6) months’ experience in commercial pool cleaning/maintenance. One (1) year experience preferred.
- Experience in pool operations preferred.
- Any combination of experience, training and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO)/Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certificates required upon hire.
- Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of establishing and maintaining healthy pool water; pump and filtration operations and chemical feeding equipment.
- Working knowledge of safety and emergency first aid procedures.
- Ability to analyze situations carefully and adopt effective courses of action using problem-solving techniques.
- Working knowledge of swimming pool facilities, operations, and techniques used to maintain a swimming facility.
- Ability to learn the skills necessary to successfully implement policies, laws, ordinances, and regulations in relation to pool operations.
- Ability to operate basic hand tools including hammers, screw drivers, drills, wrenches, measuring tape, etc.
- General knowledge of custodial procedures, mechanical and building systems, carpentry work, and the ability to perform minor construction and make repairs.
- The ability to read directions, chemical labels and work documents.
- Ability to communicate effectively with direct supervisor for specific parts orders.
- General understanding of computers and technology for tracking parts inventory, reporting, schedules, and email.
- Skills in swimming, lifeguarding and lifesaving procedures.
- Ability to safely extricate people from a pool who vary in weight, with or without assistance, at any time.
- Must be highly motivated and take direction well.
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide outstanding customer service, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and interact with others in a professional manner.
- Ability to work a varied schedule which may include some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Material and Equipment Used:
- Regularly uses standard office equipment including a personal computer, phone, printer, and copier.
- Also regularly uses and operates first-aid supplies and equipment, pump and filtration equipment, chemical feeding equipment, various pool chemicals, circulation and chlorination equipment, and simple hand-tools.
- This position may be required to drive a personal and/or District motor vehicle to various District and off-site facilities.
Working Environment:
- Primarily works in a busy pool facility environment subject to continuous interruptions and background noises. May regularly be in water. Pool facility environments can be loud, wet, humid, and have extreme temperature variations. Will have frequent exposure to common pool chemicals.
- Works in an environment with poor acoustics and an array of distractions, i.e. music, weather conditions, etc.
- Works outdoors subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems, and landscape.
Physical Requirements:
- Stand and carefully monitor pool area for extended periods.
- Walk, swim, and sit for long periods of time.
- Occasional physical work lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally required to use hands and fingers to manually manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and bend, stoop, kneel, twist, squat, climb, crouch or crawl.
- Requires sense of smell and touch.
- Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment.
- Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information. Vision acuity to see close-up and at a distance with the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision. Must have 20/20 vision or 20/20 vision corrected by eyeglasses or contact lenses.
- Speech communication and hearing to maintain clear and effective communication via the telephone and via face-to-face communication. Must be able to hear noises either naturally or with electronic auditory assistance equivalent to that of normal conversation up to 30 meters away in a noisy facility. Must understand and be understood.
