OTIE is actively seeking a highly motivated, full-time Archaeological Field Technician in Piñon Canyon Maneuver Site, Colorado (near Trinidad, Colorado).
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow direction and assist the Cultural Resource Lead with the organization, management, and implementation of projects as needed
- Perform fieldwork as needed, included but not limited to, survey, site recordings or re-evaluations, monitoring, mapping, artifact analysis, subsurface testing, and condition assessments following natural or anthropogenic disturbances, under the management of the Cultural Resource Lead
- Prepare technical reports and/or Memorandums for Record (MFRs)
- Assist with providing National Register of Historic Places significance assessments
- Perform site monitoring duties in accordance with the Fort Carson Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan (ICRMP) to meet quarterly quotas
- Use research designs to conduct site evaluations at unevaluated sites
- Use GIS technology to create maps
- Assist in After Action inspections in response to natural disasters and large maneuvers
- Support Army Civilians in the organization and implementation of the annual Tribal Consultation meeting and compile follow-up report
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Cultural Resources Management, Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History or other closely related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with archaeological and/or cultural resource management fieldwork with preference for experience in the southwestern U.S. or Colorado and experience with both historic and prehistoric archaeology
- Knowledge of basic archaeological field and laboratory procedures, including mapping, photography, and the collection and handling of artifacts, and ensuring that all work and data collected are accurate, organized, and of high quality
- Ability to maintain favorable crew relations and contribute to a team setting
- Experience with MS Office and GIS software, preferably Esri FieldMaps
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30lbs
- Availability to travel and possession of a valid driver’s license
- Ability to navigate rugged terrain by foot or vehicle
- Pre-employment background checks and drug test screening are required
Compensation Range:
$25-$27/Hour
