About This Opportunity
Rockford Construction is a $450 million real estate development, construction and property management firm with offices in Grand Rapids, Detroit and Estero, Florida. Rockford boasts a strong and growing design studio focused on providing exceptional architectural services for our commercial design-build projects.
We are currently seeking an Architect II or Architectural Designer II with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in commercial architecture. In this role, you will work directly with clients and our construction team to drive projects from concept to completion, creating design solutions and documentation that deliver exceptional quality within the owner’s budget and schedule.
The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and problem-solver who excels technically at code review, permitting requirements, the development of detailed construction documents and construction administration. Experience with Revit/AutoCAD software is strongly preferred. Based on experience and capabilities, this role may also involve managing and mentoring other team members.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture from an accredited program or similar discipline required.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in commercial architecture.
- Autodesk Revit software experience required.
- Must be proficient in MS Office, including strong skills in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong creative and visualization skills.
- Must have a strong attention to detail and be organized.
- Must possess the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
- Team member who thrives in a fast pace, dynamic work environment.
- Reliable transportation to travel to property and job sites when necessary to meet clients' needs.
- Must occasionally be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or Saturdays as needed, additional hours and travel during peak times or as required.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Google Sketchup is a plus.
- A master's degree in architecture from an accredited program.

Environmental Factors
The work environment for this position is a typical office environment with frequent visits to construction sites. When in the office, the physical demands require the ability to sit for long periods of time. Intermittent movement, such as accessing centrally located office equipment, lifting of 35 lbs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing, may be necessary to perform the requirements of this position.
Visits to construction sites may involve varied amounts of travel and overnight stays. Site visits may subject the individual to hazards commonly associated with construction. Examples of physical hazards include noise, proximity to moving vehicles, atmospheric conditions, close quarters, uneven surfaces, and elevated surfaces. The individual may also be subject to outside environmental conditions (weather) where protection may not be available. Personal protective equipment (PPE) including proper footwear, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection (if applicable), high visibility vest and/or other special clothing shall be worn on construction sites at all times unless otherwise specified.
