Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Architectural Historian.
Our cultural resources professionals provide expertise for all stages of the land development process and to a broad cross-section of clients. In an effort to restore and protect our cultural resources for future generations, our planning, field design, resource assessment and oversight services balance the needs of the development community and controlling authorities. Our historic preservation professionals have the technical expertise, knowledge, background and relationships to work effectively with the appropriate governing bodies and regulatory agencies concerning these important issues.
Our professionals are fully alert to the complexities of ever-changing regulations affecting land use and provide a full-spectrum of cultural resources management services for both the archaeological and architectural environment.
- Guide the NEPA planning process and oversee all aspects of a project, including client contact, budget control and invoicing, schedule, personnel allocation/planning, public interest facilitation, technical approach, and subcontractor involvement.
- Coordinate with clients, regulatory/resource agencies, local governments.
- Manage technical studies and cultural resource teams with assessments and various resource surveys and assessments.
- Conduct and direct background research and built environment investigations
- Oversee the development of background studies, historic resources survey reports, historic context statements, and National Register eligibility evaluations
- Additional duties may include local and National Register of Historic Places nominations, preservation plans, historic structure reports, cultural resource education materials, Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record (HABS/HAER) documentation, planning and implementing of mitigation, and other types of special projects
- Provide quality assurance and quality control for all final products to ensure technical accurateness and regulatory compliance.
- Lead technical elements of proposal development, including scope, budget, and schedule to ensure complete satisfaction.
- Provide technical direction and mentoring to developing staff.
- If required, assist with both local and out of town surveys.
- Master’s degree in architecture, architectural history, history, historic preservation, museum studies, or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years required in Section 106 compliance and project management
- Meet or Exceed the Secretary of Interior Professional Qualifications for Architectural Historian.
- Thorough understanding of historic preservation regulations governing local, state and federal projects.
- Working knowledge of agencies including potentially USACE, ACHP, TPWD, DOT, FERC, FHWA, FRA, FTA, FAA.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with experience presenting at public workshops and facilitating meetings with regulatory/resource agencies.
- Demonstrated ability in collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates.
- Demonstrated leadership in striving to continuously improve technical performance.
- Willingness to travel for project work and business development opportunities.
- Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.
- ESRI GIS application skills are a plus.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English to comprehend written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
