Definition:
Archives Technicians support the work of the Local Records, performing a variety of diverse detailed and complex tasks that require the ability to work independently within established practices.
Archives Technicians execute duties crucial to the long-term preservation and management of government records. These duties may include indexing and conducting record inventories, along with document preservation to improve access to records.
Job Functions and General Responsibilities:
- Assists archivists/conservators with processing paper collections by removing metal fasteners, surface cleaning, humidification, flattening and labeling.
- Works with and provides guidance to interns/volunteers
- Works with archivists to prepare databases and projects for access.
- Assists with field projects such as processing records, performing inventories, creating disposition lists.
- Prepares imaging projects.
- Verifies project contents are readable and complete.
- Performs all other duties assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience in operating personal computers using Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Basic database and data entry knowledge required.
- High level of accuracy in repetitive tasks required.
- Proficiency in expressing ideas clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, public officials, private groups and the public.
- Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs. repeatedly throughout the workday, and climb a ladder to retrieve and return materials.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or proof of equivalency required; College degree preferred. Hiring level will be determined by the level of education and relevant experience. Must possess a valid Missouri driver's license.
