Position: Area Construction Support Manager
Location: North San Diego, Irvine, Los Angeles
Schedule: Monday through Friday, Field/Office
Wage Scale: $135,000 to $150, 000 Salaried/Exempt
Bonus Eligibility: 15% yearly bonus potential
Job Summary:
The Area Construction Support Manager is responsible for providing expert leadership and comprehensive support to a designated territory of Field Project Managers, ensuring the successful execution of all renovation projects. This role, which involves 75% support and 25% independent project management, includes managing select projects independently from inception to completion, offering technical guidance on complex construction issues, and implementing standardized procedures to maintain consistency and quality across the territory. Additionally, this position will lead training initiatives, adopt new technologies, and enforce compliance with industry standards, while also acting as a mentor and go-to resource for the project management team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive support to a designated territory that includes several Field Project Managers, ensuring consistency and high standards across all projects within the area.
- Act as a point of contact for Field Project Managers within the territory, assisting with project coordination, issue resolution, and resource allocation.
- Lead weekly renovation meetings to report on projects.
- Serve as a go-to resource for Field Project Managers, providing expert advice on complex construction issues, such as structural challenges, material selection, and code compliance.
- Offer technical guidance on interpreting and applying architectural and structural plans in real-world construction scenarios.
- Develop and deliver training programs for Field Project Managers and other team members on best practices in residential construction, project management techniques, and safety protocols.
- Conduct regular workshops or one-on-one sessions to enhance the skills of project managers, particularly in the areas such as contract negotiation, budget management, and quality assurance.
- Lead the resolution of issues that arise on-site, such as structural, waterproofing, foundation, mold, or contractor disputes, providing expert solutions that minimize delays and cost overruns.
- Utilize your extensive experience to provide structural analysis, and constructability advise project managers.
- Advise on the process of pulling permits for renovation projects, ensuring that all necessary permits are secured efficiently and provide guidance on navigating any permit-related challenges that may arise during project planning and execution.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Real Estate Investments, providing strategic support in evaluating potential renovation projects, offering insights on design feasibility, construction costs, and timelines to inform investment decisions, and ensuring alignment between design execution and investment goals.
- Implement and enforce advanced quality control measures across all projects in the territory, ensuring that workmanship meets or exceeds company standards.
- Develop and maintain a set of standardized procedures and best practices for project management that can be implemented across the territory to ensure consistency in quality and efficiency.
- Regularly update and refine these standards based on emerging industry trends, new technologies, and lessons learned from past projects.
- Lead the adoption of new digital tools and technologies within the project management team, ensuring that all team members are proficient in using these tools for enhanced communication, data management, and project tracking.
- Provide ongoing support and training on digital platforms like Microsoft Office, Dropbox, Knack, SalesForce, and other project management software to optimize their usage.
- Collect and analyze data from past projects to identify areas for improvement and implement changes that result in better project outcomes.
- Stay up to date with the latest building codes, regulations, and industry standards, and ensure that all projects within the territory comply with these requirements.
- Provide expert guidance on navigating complex regulatory environments, including securing necessary permits, passing inspections, and managing compliance documentation.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior Field Project Managers, sharing expertise and best practices in residential construction management.
- Manage select renovation projects independently, from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to budget, timeline, and quality standards, while providing hands-on leadership.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of six (6) years of project management experience in residential construction.
- A comprehensive understanding of residential construction, including structural framing, foundation assessment, and repair techniques.
- Experience in reading and interpreting architectural and structural plans.
- Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in dealing with constructability and inspection challenges.
- Proficiency in using digital tools and software for project management, including Excel, Word, and Dropbox.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on maintaining high standards of workmanship.
- Valid driver"s license with a willingness to travel across the territory and to different project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Construction Management, or related field.
Physical Requirements:
- The nature of the position requires frequent travel to and from various locations within the County. Occasionally, travel may be required to neighboring counties.
- May on occasion require prolonged periods of sitting, walking, and standing.
- Heavy Carrying/Lifting: Physically transporting, raising items from a lower to a higher position, or moving objects horizontally weighing 40lbs and over from one location to another.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull up to 40lbs.
- Bending and Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist.
- Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders or stairs using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
- Mobility Requirement: Ability to get from one location to another.
- Kneeling: Bending legs at knees to come to rest on one or both knees.
- Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, fingers, and/or upper body for sustained periods of time, including using extremities to drag, push, pull or grasp.
- Visual Requirements: Able to see and read computer screens, small electronic devices, and maps.
- Hearing Requirement: Able to detect specific noises for proper equipment operation.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical.
