Asphalt R&D/Operations Leader -CertainTeed - Saint-Gobain

About the Job
CertainTeed is seeking a talented, and energetic senior-level process engineer to lead asphalt innovation research in a growing Roofing R&D team. This position will lead the asphalt process research group, focusing on providing innovative sustainable solutions to asphalt and polymer-modified asphalt materials for roofing applications. This position is accountable for consistent operations at 5 asphalt oxidation plants, ensuring stable operations for product consistency. Additionally, this position leads the technical development projects, ensuring stable supply and operations of current formulations, and implementing best practices at all roofing plants.
This position will lead the development and implementation of new formulations, processes, techniques & quality tools, which will be confirmed through the application of engineering & material fundamentals and statistical tools. Phases of development include lab, pilot, scale-up, and implementation of R&D new products and processes into manufacturing. The candidate will take project objectives and transform them into actionable tasks including research of technologies, design and execution of experiments, analysis of results, and generation of IP and technical reports.
+ Lead the overall operations of the asphalt stills at each plant site with the support of plant engineers and operators
+ Lead efforts in assessing losses within asphalt operations and shingle production
+ Lead the tech transfer of research and development activity in all aspects of the asphalt team and new product development
+ Serve as technical process expert in asphalt science and oxidation optimization customized for each shingle plant.
+ Design, run experiments, operate pilot equipment, and analyze the experimental outcomes.
+ Develop the asphalt team at the plants, ensure strong collaboration with other roofing R&D and Ops teams and other cross-functional teams, and deliver on both short and long-term objectives.
+ Establish KPIs to measure plant performance and drive improvements in our oxidation processes.
+ Assure oxidation plant maintenance systems are in place to maintain equipment and maintain operational performance.
+ Play a key role in product assessment, optimization, and scale-up.
+ Bachelor’s Degree with 18+ years of experience; Master’s Degree with 13+ years experience or PhD with 9+ years of experience in-Polymer Science Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other similar fields
+ Experience with asphalt oxidation is required.
+ Knowledge of API standards, boiler operations, and asphalt process preferred.
+ Green or Black Belt Certification preferred
