About the Job
The Hennepin County Assessor's Office is seeking an Assessment Programs Specialist. This position will provide administration and oversight of all assessment related tax programs, including making decisions regarding eligibility and compliance of the program requirements as well as ensuring process adherence to the governing laws and statutes.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed on-site up to 50% of the time at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 or other County facilities, and remote as job duties require. This position has a primary schedule of Monday – Friday, with core hours between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. with some flexibility. Some evenings and/or weekends will be required as needed. While these positions are designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
Note: Initial training for these positions will be held in person.
New employees who are hired into hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In this position, you will:
- Provide general administration and oversight of all assessment related programs including homestead, veterans, tax exemption, and more.
- Investigate, respond, and recommend action about questions and concerns pertaining to program applications and assist in resolving issues by managing external and internal communications channels.
- Support and attend community engagement efforts with a priority on maximizing enrollment and identifying and removing barriers to racial equity in the programs.
- Review monthly audit reporting and ensure compliance.
- Research, analyze, and interpret current and proposed laws, rules, and legislation.
- Document and manage the process documentation for department business and keep channels updated with current processes, applications, and supporting documentation.
- Serve on external committees for legislative, communications, diversity and inclusion, and business information office solutions or information technology related projects.
- One of the following:
- Four years or more of experience in general administrative work related to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
- General administrative work is defined as the administration and/or management of programs, policies, and/or budgets.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or another field appropriate to the position.
- Four years or more of experience in general administrative work related to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
- Experience:
- Working as an Assessment Programs Specialist or Assessment Technician in an Assessor’s Office.
- Working in a county recorder’s office, service center, real estate, and/or property tax field.
- Advancing equity and reducing disparities in the community.
- Building community connections with a wide variety of organizations to collaborate, develop, and deliver programs or services.
- Providing customer service to internal and external stakeholders over the phone, in person, and through email communication.
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with municipal and county staff and the general public.
