Overview:
J.Crew Seeks an Assistant Art Director possessing strong Art direction, concept and design skills with an elevated, joyful aesthetic.
The candidate will be responsible for seasonal and monthly shoots. From concept to execution this Assistant Art director will partner with Art directors, Strategists, Designers, and content teams to produce elevated franchises across digital and social.
A focus on storytelling and product drives for J.Crew Women’s, will be the focus. With light touch to Crewcuts and Men’s. Assuring concept and design is engaging, relevant, thoughtful and inspiring.
The Assistant Art Director will be tasked with creating and developing clear and concise deks for monthly collaborations, exclusives and social stories. Executing against editorial, marketing and merchandising needs. Bringing to life stories of our chosen affiliates, influencers and friends of the brand.
Applicants must have a solid understanding of visual and design principles of J.Crew and be fast to learn what aesthetic works for our customer and how to target new audiences as required.
The creative candidate will have a sophisticated taste, be immersed in the social world, and be abreast of current trends in the photography, editorial and fashion and video.
This Assistant Art Director will have a rolodex of Photographers, Videographer, Illustrators, animators and Creative artist to partner with and guide.
Responsibilities & Skills:
- Collaborate, brainstorm and deliver thoughtful concepts to and with the
Art Director.
- Present captivating, thoughtful overviews and content drops to the SVP of brand Creative.
- The candidate will be highly competent at partnering with members of the wider
Brand Creative team including, Strategists, Marketing, Copywriters, Stylists, In-house Photographers, Project management and Production.
- Maintaining elevated visual standards. Continue enhancing the tone
& aesthetic across design and brand.
- Use of sophisticated typography treatments, three-dimensional layout design, moving image and relevant media use.
- Attend local shoots with ability to remotely art direct shoots further afield or travel to destinations.
- Ability to delegate and activate concepts amongst Designers and Video Editors. Communicating ideas effectively and editing astutely.
- Flexible team player with creative problem solving andexcellent communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload, taking responsibility for personal and team deadlines.
- Assure retouching team & colorists carry out cosmetic alterations and color accuracy for both
on-figure and still life imagery.
- Must be detail orientated.
Qualifications & Programs:
- The candidate will need 6+ years of experience in the creative field.
- The candidate will have 3+ years of experience on set.
- BS/BA degree or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform essential functions of the role.
- Proficiency with Adobe Suite, Photoshop, InDesign, Sketch, After Effects.
