Assistant/Associate/Full Professor

The Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) at the University of Florida invites applications for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor. The position has an anticipated start date of August 2025.

We are seeking candidates in all areas related to Computational Materials Science and Engineering. However, we have a special interest in candidates with backgrounds in computational soft and/or organic materials, including biomaterials. Our interest includes traditional computational materials science methods as well as artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches.

The Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Florida (https://mse.ufl.edu/) has over 30 faculty members working in all aspects of materials science and engineering and nuclear engineering and is expected to grow in upcoming years. The department provides an integrated MSE education addressing a wide array of materials (functional materials, quantum materials, biomaterials, structural materials, etc.) for a diverse set of applications, including energy and power technologies, materials under extreme environments, AI/machine learning, electronic devices, materials for medical applications, sustainable materials, and more. The total student population is approximately 480 with over 80 students in the Ph.D. program. Recent US News & World Report has MSE ranked as 22^nd. The University of Florida is ranked as the #6 Best Public US University according to US News & World Report. UF recently announced a $70 million artificial intelligence partnership with NVIDIA to create an AI-centric data center that houses the world's fastest AI supercomputer in higher education.

Applicants must possess a PhD in a related field by the start date.

The faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the materials science & engineering curricula, initiate and sustain externally sponsored research programs, recruit and supervise graduate students; and engage in service activities for the University and the profession. Dedication to excellence in research, teaching, and service, and evidence of scholarly achievements are required. The candidate should have a record of or demonstrate the potential for successful proposal writing, PhD student mentoring, scholarship, and classroom teaching.
