Assistant Coach - Clay Target - Mid Michigan College

The athletic Assistant Coach is responsible for all aspects of operation and team management including recruitment, training, coaching, and retention of quality student-athletes. The Assistant Coach must guide, develop, and provide leadership in all functions of an effective program.  The primary focus is on safety and the academic success of our student-athletes while teaching clay target shooting and incorporating qualities that will create responsible citizens that represent the College positively. The Assistant Coach follows rules and guidelines in accordance with USA Clay Target, NJCAA and MCCAA, develops preliminary travel and equipment needs. In support of the Department, the Coach is responsible for the proper use of a Mid’s company card and promptly submits accurate expense information and receipts.

The position requires analysis, attention to detail, responsible judgment, decisiveness, initiative, planning and organization, persuasiveness, effective oral and written communication, organizational skills, self-reliance, sensitivity, stress tolerance, commitment to the College, dependability, and a teamwork mentality.The Assistant Coach is responsible for all aspects of operation and team management including recruitment, training, coaching, and retention of quality student-athletes.

1. Provides leadership; organizes, directs and administers all aspects of the program
2. Identifies, evaluates and recruits academically-prepared students in accordance with College policies, MCCAA, NJCAA, and other organizations and regulations as applicable
3. Supervises and evaluates assistant coaches and staff
4. Provides mentoring and academic oversight of student athletes to promote retention and completion
5. Encourages and nurtures success among student athletes in the areas of citizenship, academics, and athletics
6. Instructs players on rules, regulations, use of equipment, strategies, and proper technique
7. Organizes and manages quality practices and competitions on a reasonable schedule
8. Determines and implements game strategies
9. Responsible for the safety and conduct of the team while maintaining the highest degree of integrity
10. Provides leadership for the team and displays good sportsmanship toward players, opponents, officials, and spectators
11. Maintains and monitors equipment
12. Leads and participates in efforts to raise funds for the Mid athletic programs
13. Maintains fiscal responsibility and integrity including proper use of College credit card and submitting accurate expense information and receipts
14. Participates in community, campus, and athletic initiatives when appropriate
15. Supports and initiates campus and community engagement
16. Timely submission of all required requests/paperwork
17. Support and serve as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic and service initiatives. Adheres to the organization’s policies & procedures, and compliance guidelines.
18. Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA).  CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College’s Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations.
19. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Knowledge of rules, regulations, and strategies
• Ability to work effectively with players, administrators, parents, and the community
• Knowledge of collegiate sports programs and collegiate clay target shooting rules and eligibility requirements
• Skills in managing operations, budgeting, and supervising personnel
• Must be well organized with the ability to handle multiple assignments as well as maintain records and files as needed
• Problem solving and decision-making skills
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
• Self-motivated and able to work without constant supervision
• Must have working knowledge of physical education, athletic, and recreation equipment and facilities
  

Education, Certification, Licensure:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• First Aid and CPR certification required (or ability to receive cert.).
• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record required.

Experience:

• Previous collegiate competitive clay shooting and coaching experience is preferred.
• Fundraising experience preferred.

Working Environment:

• Position includes some amount of physical and emotional stress. 
• Physical exertion is sometimes required.
• Duties are conducted indoors and outdoors. 
• Noise levels during practices and games may be excessive at times.
• The duties of this position require a high degree of sensitivity to the personality characteristics of students, staff, and community.
• Frequent travel and driving is required to attend games and practices.
• Duties may require travel between, and off, campuses.
• Working days and hours may vary and include evenings and weekends.
