Position Summary
The Assistant Controller will be the right-hand person for the Director of Finance and lead the team in managing daily financial/accounting operations of the law firm and consolidation of financials for multinational entities. The ideal candidate will have extensive GAAP knowledge, public accounting/tax experience, and experience managing a team. We are looking for a detailed oriented team player.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll
- Assist with the semi-monthly payroll review for attorney compensation calculation
- Ownership of financial close and assistance with consolidation
- Prepare the management reporting and analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential issues
- Co-manage the implementation of a new accounting ERP system and facilitate automation of manual processes
- Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets and forecasts
- Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits to ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards
- Implement internal controls and identify opportunities for process improvement
- Assist with documentation of the accounting policies and procedures
- Provide guidance and support to team members as needed
Essential Capabilities
- Strong ability to adapt to new software and applications, savvy with technology, and comfortable in a paperless environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and identify trends, variances, and issues
- Experience with accrual to cash basis accounting - required
Education/Experience
- Bachelors degree in accounting or finance required
- 10+ years in accounting with the most recent 3 years as an Assistant Controller
- Experience in managing system implementations and automations
- Experience in preparing management reporting package
Preferred Education/Experience
- CPA designation
- Legal service industry experience is a plus
- Audit experience
- Public accounting firm experience with a focus on taxation.
