About the Job
The Assistant Controller is an integral part of the accounting department at Valenti-Held. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for directly overseeing the payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable staff who handle all the accounting for Valenti-Held and its affiliates. The Assistant Controller will report directly to the Controller. Accordingly, honesty, integrity, and the highest ethical standards are essential qualifications for the position. Other essential qualifications include accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to consistently meet deadlines.
The following is a general listing of the core duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Controller. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
- Effectively manage payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable staff
- Review payroll each week for three companies and work with PEO (Professional Employer Organization) on payroll files and questions
- Review accounts payable invoice batches for all companies
- Review accounts receivable billings for all companies
- Prepare cash balances each week for all companies
- Review cash requirements each week for all companies and ensure that each company is following correct payment terms
- Prepare monthly cash reconciliations for all companies
- File monthly and annual sales and use tax returns
- Manage all company credit cards
- Review job setup, change orders, and subcontractor setup
- Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements and work-in-progress schedule
- Assist with year-end tax planning and gathering tax information
- Preparation of annual Form 1099s for all companies
- Work directly with outsourced IT company to help coordinate IT updates and maintenance
- Prepare billing and gross profit reports for management
- Assist controller and upper management with various tasks
Education and Experience Requirement
- Must have between 3-5 years of accounting work experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Experience working in an accounting software (Spectrum or similar)
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA and/or Public Accounting Experience
Other Required Abilities and Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Should be familiar with the construction industry and job cost reporting
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word
- Must have problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
