SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the management of workflow throughout all departments within the DC. Receiving, Storing, and Shipping products in the warehouse or distribution center.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years previous warehouse experience.
- Background in distribution a plus.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
- Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and the Internet.
- Ability to lead and motivate staff.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Must be proficient and detailed orientated.
- Must be able to complete deadlines in short periods of time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Developing an overall project plan based on company policies and procedures, including identifying milestones and deadlines.
- Manage team members to make sure that all aspects of the project(s) (5’s, LEAN and or Kaizen’s, Six Sigma and Safety) are completed on time.
- Managing the project budget by monitoring expenditure to ensure costs stay within the allotted amount.
- Managing the project schedule to ensure that milestones are met, and deadlines are not missed.
- Creating reports outlining project status and progress for upper management, including updates on issues that have been identified.
- Managing team members to ensure that they are working effectively together and that they meet their deadlines.
- Reviewing operation plans to determine feasibility, scope of work required, and potential risks involved.
- Managing the team to ensure that they are meeting deadlines and achieving goals while adhering to standards of quality.
- Planning, organizing, and directing activities within the warehouse to ensure that inventory levels are maintained.
- Communicating with other departments or managers to ensure that orders are fulfilled according to schedule.
- Monitoring employee attendance and productivity and taking steps to improve performance where necessary.
- Reviewing process flows in departments to ensure SOPs are followed and document recommendations for process improvements.
- Ensuring that all warehouse equipment is working properly and that safety procedures are followed.
- Coordinating with other departments to ensure smooth delivery of orders between process flows & departments.
- Become a knowledge expert of all systematic and physical job functions within DC along with workflows.
- Take responsibility for assigned DC locations’ financial performance and functions managed by distribution center managers including warehousing and inventory control, DC transportation & logistics and execution of operational best practices.
- Monitor and manage operational performance using Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
- Review and share monthly performance regarding safety and efficiency with each DC manager and Regional Manager.
- Identify, recommend, and pursue opportunities to increase efficiency, improve cost control and improve DC operations department wide while maintaining consistent service levels to customers.
- Ensure processes & procedures are used and followed by the Distribution Leaders to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Coach and mentor DC Leaders to achieve target staffing levels.
- Approve and administer employee recognition, safety, or miscellaneous recognition programs.
- Review and approve all written employee corrective actions.
- Enforce, assure compliance, and support safety management regarding documentation of injuries, facility damage, near misses, safety audits, and other safety management procedures or best practices. Assist with identifying hazards of required jobs within the department, assure training compliance, and sponsor other needs as directed by corporate safety leadership.
- Facilitate and provide communication to the Regional Manager to ensure objectives are met for each day/month.
- Foster and ensure communication cross departmentally between distribution teams and supporting departments.
- Provide leadership & manage backup support for DC Leaders as necessary for support or extended absences.
- Experience or strong understanding of an ERP system, Warehouse Management System
- Demonstrate a positive and influential safety mindset and ability to build a culture of safety among department teams.
- Problem solve and innovate to avoid or provide solutions to problems.
- Demonstrate an ability to be self-directed and motivated following a flexible schedule.
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain positive morale and a highly engaged team.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Other duties as assigned by the Regional Manager.
# OF PERSONNEL SUPERVISED:
- 10 to 45 depending on location.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to efficiently use a desktop computer equipped with standard keyboard and mouse.
- Ability to communicate in English to locate, read and report information.
- Ability to lift, lower, carry product up to 50 lbs.
- Warehouse environment – work in hot/cold temperatures through the seasons
