Concordia University is seeking a full-time Director of Student Leadership and Involvement. The Director of Student Leadership and Involvement reports to the Associate Dean of Students and is primarily responsible for working with students to enhance their development at the University by providing opportunities for leadership training, as well as, student activities involvement while enhancing the social, cultural, educational, and spiritual atmosphere of the Concordia community. The Director Student Leadership and Involvement will work collaboratively with the Director of Residential Life, Director of Athletics, Director of University Events, Director of Alumni Relations, Director of the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement, and the Director of Undergraduate Admissions and other key university personnel. The Director of Student Leadership and Involvement must demonstrate a commitment to a Christian, faith-based collegiate experience and will exhibit behavior that is consistent with an individual who serves with integrity and good character.
Reponsibilities/Duties: The Director will be responsible for the development, promotion, and production of social, cultural, educational and spiritual student activities and programs that meet the needs and interests of the University's diverse population. The Director will also serve as an advisor for the Student Government Association; develop and facilitate events and programs to specifically serve the University commuter population; oversee the efforts of the Campus Activities Board, a student programming body that oversees events such as Homecoming Week, Spring Formal, and monthly social programs; collaborate and coordinate with academic departments, Spiritual Life, Center for International Student Services, Office of Multicultural Student Engagement, Athletics, and Alumni Relations for event planning, promotion, and awareness; promote campus involvement opportunities through various means, such as: holding a Campus Involvement Fair each semester, marketing & promotion of clubs and organizations throughout the year; develop a student activities programming calendar for distribution; serve as a resource to all student-based clubs/organizations, as well as their assigned advisors by creating and distributing the student organization handbook; participate in university events such as undergraduate admission open houses and visit days. In addition, the Director will develop and implement a student leadership program that is grounded in current student development theory with a focus on Servant Leadership; routinely assess the programs/events that we offer in order to ensure that we are meeting the needs and interests of the campus community; generate reports regarding office activities for the Dean of Students and Board of Regents.
Skill Sets: A Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or related field and a minimum of 3 years of student activities, leadership and/or orientation experience is required. Applicants must be able to understand the role the University's Christian mission and how affiliation with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod impacts programming development. Incumbent must possess knowledge of student development theories and have exemplary interpersonal skills and a demonstrated leadership and management ability, including effective supervisory skills, training and development and public speaking skills. Must also be self-motivated and able to accomplish tasks without close supervision. In addition, a minimum of three years of experience and a successful track record in planning, coordinating and completing large scale, detail-orientated projects and events is necessary. Position requires flexibility, as evening/weekend hours are necessary.
