Position Information:
NWHSU is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our Student Affairs team as the Assistant Dean of Students. This individual will support the Dean of Students in keeping a pulse on the changing needs of students and creating innovative solutions to the problems students face. This role serves as a key advisor and liaison for the University's Student Senate, clubs, and organizations, and a primary support for at-risk students. This Assistant Dean serves as the institution's Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) and leads international student advising for the department. This individual will also partner with the Dean of Students to ensure the efficacy of Student Affairs programs, services, and policies, and drives several key initiatives for the department, including: the Student Success Team; peer tutoring; leadership development tracks; major campus events such as Commencement and Orientation; and the administration of the Student Code of Conduct.
Work Location: Bloomington, MN with flexibility to work 1-2 days per week remotely; must live local and be able to come to campus as needed
Duties:
- Lead International Student Advising & Serve as Principal Designated School Official (PDSO)
- Advance the work of the Student Success Team and coordinate outreach to at-risk students and other interventions such as the early alert process
- Design and Implement student leadership development and Peer tutoring programs
- Serve as co-advisor for NWHSU's Student Senate
- Assist in the administration of the Student Code of Conduct & provide support for crisis intervention and other case management needs
- Oversee the University's Club and Organization Program to ensure safety at student events, compliance with campus policies, and inclusivity in the club and org approval process
- Provide leadership and support for major campus events such as Commencement, Orientation, the Annual Student Leadership Dinner, etc.
- Ensure effective functioning of the Student Affairs front office
What you need to have?
- Bachelor's degree, required
- Master's degree in the field of higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, or related field, preferred
- 3-5 years experience in a Student Affairs office, required
Other Specialized Knowledge/Skills:
- Familiarity with student and identity development theories
- Experience with crisis response, case management, and student code of conduct administration
- Experience as a DSO with a background in SEVIS administration
