About the Job
Under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships, the Assistant Director oversees the advising and processing of financial aid at the Taylorsville campus. This position supports Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) efforts to attract and retain students through the timely and compliant administration of financial aid. The Assistant Director ensures staff provide excellent customer service to students, families, other departments, and external partners.
- Mentor and assist OFAS Advisors and Specialists with all aspects of awarding, counseling, verification, and appeals.
- Ensure excellent customer service for SLCC students, families, and the SLCC community.
- Meet with students, families, staff, and faculty in response to questions or issues related to the processing of financial aid or customer service escalations.
- Assist in staff development related to customer service issues, regulatory compliance, and procedures.
- In conjunction with other members of the OFAS management team, identify training needs of Advisors and Specialists.
- Monitor awarding and appeal activities to assure quality, accuracy, and timeliness of financial aid administration.
- Coordinate and conduct financial aid presentations and FAFSA events for SLCC current and prospective students.
- Work with Admissions, the Utah System of Higher Education, and local high schools to support those events.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of proposed and current legislation that may impact financial aid programs.
- Ensure staff understand institutional requirements to meet federal regulations.
- Ensure that collaborative, positive relationships are maintained with colleagues by developing programs and services that enhance cooperative efforts among offices (including Registrar, Admissions, Bursar, Student Affairs).
- Other duties as assigned.
