Position Title Assistant Director of Accessibility Services
Overview
Coordinate support services and reasonable academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Help ensure academic access and successful academic development of students with disabilities from matriculation to graduation. Ensure that all services for student athletes are provided in accordance with applicable NCAN Conference rules.
Essential Duties:
+ Coordinate academic services and accommodations for students with disabilities. Review student documentation and determine/approve reasonable accommodations. Coordinate the provision of accommodations (e.g., extended time/alternate setting examinations, note taking services, alternate format texts, etc.) with students and faculty/staff. Provide individualized academic and self-efficacy coaching to students and/or provide appropriate referrals for these services. Serve as liaison with outside vendors regarding modified curriculum materials and assistive technology. (40%)
+ Liaison with on- and off-campus personnel and organizations. Spend considerable time working with faculty and faculty advisors to ensure and/or coordinate reasonable academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Collaborate with academic departments/programs, the Student Health Center, the Office of Residence Life, the Office of Student Activities, Involvement, and Leadership ( SAIL ), Athletics, psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, etc. to provide appropriate accommodations/services to students with disabilities. Serve as member of ADN504 Committee. Work collaboratively to help provide for the non-academic needs (e.g., campus accessibility) of students with disabilities. Educate the campus community on applicable laws, reasonable accommodations, and effective strategies in working with students with disabilities (e.g., guidelines, offer workshops). Consult with the Office of Admission to review prospective student applications and coordinate prospective student visits (re: students with disabilities and their families). (30%)
+ Coordinate summer outreach and relevant orientation programming. Work with the Office of Student Activities, Involvement, and Leadership ( SAIL ) to facilitate individual and/or group meetings with incoming students with special needs and their parents/guardians. At orientation meetings, accurately present academic demands, programs of study, and other SSC services. Meet with new and returning students with disabilities during the summer months to coordinate academic accommodations (e.g., audio books, interpreters, etc.) for the fall semester. (10%)
+ Perform administrative duties. Provide oversight and direction to the Graduate Assistant for Accessibility Services. Prepare faculty notification letters (Re: reasonable accommodations for students). Coordinate pre-registration activities for students with disabilities. Coordinate publications, including departmental web pages related to this position; prepare reports (e.g., annual summary of services provided) and memoranda, as well as recommendations and evaluations for students. Serve on other related committees, and task forces, as necessary. (20%)
Marginal Duties:
+ Perform all other duties as may be required.
Education and Experience Required
+ Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in special education, education, or related field.
+ Minimum three years related professional experience in the post-secondary environment, working directly with students with disabilities; similar experience with students outside the post-secondary setting and/or a combination of training and experience may be considered
+ Strong knowledge of metacognitive learning techniques and student success strategies, especially as they relate to coaching and supporting students’ disabilities; expertise in coaching students with ADHD and/or Autism Spectrum disorders preferred
+ Ability to read and interpret neurological and/or psychological evaluations related to disabilities; ability to administer screenings for certain types of disabilities (e.g., ADHD ) preferred
+ Knowledge of assistive technology and its application in the post-secondary setting
+ Knowledge offederal disability law (ADN504) and its implications for institutions of higher education
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills
+ Excellent interpersonal, organizational, counseling, and listening skills
+ Technical skills, including the ability to use computer software (e.g., Accommodate, campus administrative systems, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, etc.) to enhance effectiveness
+ Some evening and weekend work is required

Salary $78,000 - $82,000
