The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is searching for an Assistant
Director of Facilities to provide oversight of non-capital construction
and maintenance for LAS facilities, which includes the direct
coordination of projects in consultation with units, Facilities &
Services, outside consultants and others. Managing budgets for
non-capital projects. Data collection and report creation in support of
LAS Facilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Facilities
- Assists the Senior Director of Facilities and Planning with Major
Capital projects
- Serves as a liaison for the College involving communication with
various departments on campus such as the campus Facilities &
Services Maintenance and Code Compliance and other campus units as
needed.
- Investigate, analyze, and create reports for facilities,
environmental, and safety-related topics.
- Maintain college space database and update records of all internal
space assignments, classification, and usage. Conduct and review
annual space surveys in coordination with the Senior Director of
Facilities.
- Assist LAS facilities contacts with space assignments as needed by
gathering information and assessing the needs of the units, planning
for furniture needs and other items.
- Assist Senior Director of Facilities with review and creation of
facilities and space use policies.
- Represent LAS on college and campus level committees as needed.
- Act as secondary building safety and security contact for LAS units
as needed. This includes on-call responsibilities, processing of
maintenance requests, facilitation of life safety improvements,
annual safety training and other activities.
Maintenance
- Plan, develop and direct all scheduled maintenance work involving
building MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) systems, and approve
outages such that it minimizes the impact on research and teaching
missions within LAS.
- Follow and implement University's and LAS' policies and procedures
on items of business affairs and campus division of responsibility
involving maintenance and space related applications.
- Other duties as assigned to fulfill the facility and safety needs of
LAS.
Required Qualifications
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Any one or combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the
categories below:
A. college course work in facility management, operations management, or
a closely related field, as measured by the following conversion table
or its proportional equivalent:
- 60 semester hours or an Associate's Degree equals one (1) year (12
months)
B. training from a vocational, technical, or an armed forces program
which includes building operations such as coordination of building
maintenance, construction management, hospitality, or closely related
experience.
C. work experience which includes building operations such as
coordination of building maintenance and work orders, construction
management, hospitality, or closely related experience.
3. One (1) year (12 months) of supervisory or administrative experience
which includes building operations such as coordination of building
maintenance and work orders, construction management, hospitality, or
closely related experience
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a field
related to the position.
Three (3) years of work experience which includes building operations
such as coordination of building maintenance and work orders,
construction management, facilities project anagement or closely
related experience.
Experience with facilities in a university setting.
Successful candidates will have:
- Knowledge of all phases of physical plant construction, operation
and maintenance and repair, remodeling, planning, scheduling,
management, and administration.
- Technical knowledge and experience working with building mechanical
systems.
- The ability to organize, manage and complete multiple tasks with
multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate effectively utilizing interpersonal skills to
establish and maintain effective relationships with a variety of
constituents, including faculty PIs, unit administrators, Campus
Facilities & Services staff, and external architects, engineers,
contractors, and the general public.
- Excellent customer service.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local building and safety
regulations and practices.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures and an understanding
of University, College and Departmental organizational goals and
objectives.
- Awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural and linguistic
differences.
