The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) plays a crucial support role in assisting the Director of Nursing Services (DNS) with the overall management and operation of nursing services within the facility. The ADON ensures that high standards of care are upheld, supports the nursing team, and assists in maintaining regulatory compliance. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to help create a positive and efficient work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Leadership: Assist the DNS in managing nursing responsibilities and maintaining the quality of care provided to residents.
- Wound/Skin Care: Conduct weekly wound and skin rounds to monitor and address resident needs.
- Compliance and Communication: Ensure effective communication across all levels of nursing staff and assist in maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Resident Care: Meet the medical needs of all residents, ensuring comprehensive and compassionate care.
- On-Call Duty: Be available 24 hours on call to address any urgent nursing concerns.
- Service Coordination: Coordinate and direct the planning and implementation of nursing services.
- Nursing Knowledge: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of general nursing theory and practice.
- Medical Records: Ensure the accurate and timely completion of medical records.
- Staff Management: Assist with the interviewing, hiring, and orientation of new nursing staff. Oversee daily staffing processes to ensure adequate coverage.
- Infection Control: Manage and oversee infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for residents and staff.
- Flexible Scheduling: Maintain flexibility with work hours to address unpredictable needs and support the nursing team effectively.
Qualifications:
- Licensure: Must have a current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in long-term care settings. Preferred: 2 years of management experience and 1 year of staff education experience.
- Skills: Excellent communication skills and evidence of basic leadership and supervision abilities.
- Flexibility: Ability to work flexible hours as required to meet the needs of the facility and its residents.
