Assistant Director of Nursing - Long Term Care - Sidney Regional Medical Center

Sidney Regional Medical Center Long Term Care is searching for an Assistant Director of Nursing!  Join our growing leadership team at Long Term Care!

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist in setting and monitoring achievement of goals and objectives for the Long Term Care facility consistent with established philosophy, policies/procedures, and standards of practice that reflect and adherence to corporate and knowing Federal and State Regulations, inclusive of SNF regulations.
• Work 2 shifts on the floor and 2 shifts in the office role.
• Work a late night to monitor the other shift and needs of the residents, including at least 1 weekend/shift per month.
• Make rounds to assess resident status and observe nurses.
• Collaborates with Infection Prevention.
• May be RN consultant coverage for Assisted Living as needed.
• Assist to coordinate and complete annual evaluations.
• May be a backup to the PBJ process.
• May assist with investigation any Abuse or Suspected Abuse allegations.
• Provide oversight and backup with MDS/Care Plans as applicable.
• Assure compliance with resident rights policies and work to resolve resident grievances.
• Coordinate with Staff developer on continuing education opportunities appropriate to extended care and responsibilities, update competency/skills checklists and may assist with in-service training.
• Actively participate and may assist with chairing the Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement process for the facility.
• Oversees the Wound/skin process, which includes wound rounds and auditing wound documentation.
• May assist with interviewing potential employees.
• Will participate with the after hour on-call rotation.
• Is one of the primary contacts, along with Social Services, for referrals from home or hospital settings, reviews all pertinent information and evaluates for appropriateness/eligibility of admissions.  Coordinate with medical record/Social Services the analyzing of insurance, governmental, and accrediting agency standards to determine criteria concerning admissions, obtaining medical justifications, treatment, and length of stay of residents.
• Consistently evaluates the appropriateness of levels of care, diagnostic testing, clinical procedures, quality and clinical risk issues.  Compares skilled medical records/documentation to established criteria and confers with medical providers, nursing personnel, rehab team, and social services and other professional staff to ensure resident needs can be met, meet the physician desired level of care and to determine legitimacy of treatment and length of stay and assisting in determining discharge or continued stay criteria for residents.
• Contacts physicians for acceptance/orders and diagnosis.
• Coordinates with Social Services on the transportation arrangements as applicable.
• Coordinates with Restorative for equipment.
• Outlines what the licensed staff focuses on for documentation.
• Collaborates with the MDS/Care Plan Coordinator for base line care plan and updating care plans as events occur.
• Coordinate with SS/Medical Records to determine resident insurance review dates according to established criteria and the contacting of insurance companies as indicated for continued stays and verify days and coverage plans.
• Assist surveyors and inspectors to facilitate regulatory compliance.
• Employee is expected to be sufficiently knowledgeable about the legal aspects of his or her responsibilities and activities to be able to avoid inadvertent violation of State and Federal Statutes/regulations and failing to meet affirmative legal duties and is required to report any suspected or known illegal activity.
• Hostess and round on the floor.
• Communicate effectively with families.
• Be a leader on the floor.
• Utilize critical thinking skills to know if a resident has had a change in health status.
• Be a super user of EPIC – educate/train staff on changes.
• Assist DON in ordering new equipment.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Recruit and hire a sufficient number of qualified staff to deliver efficient resident care in accordance with the established staffing plan.  Assists with daily resident care as needed when staffing is challenged and fill in on the floor if needed.
• Establish and maintain productive lines of communication with residents and families, internal staff, and external community.
• Attend and participate in department/facility meetings, as required.
• Assist with schedule, direct and document regular meetings with staff to assure effective communication.
• Prepare and assure adherence to an annual operating budget for department.  Review monthly financial reports and investigate variances for justification.
• Plan, direct, and monitor the scheduling, budgeting, and utilization of human resources.
• Collaborates with the creating of the schedule to meet staffing needs based on census and acuity of residents.
• Other duties as assigned by leadership.

Education, Experience, & Licensure:

• Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university preferred. Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) also considered.
• Experience: Hands on resident care to understand the challenges that nurses face and supervisory experience preferred.
• Required licensure: Must have a current and valid Registered Nurse License in the State of Nebraska.  BLS certified
• Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.
