JOB SUMMARY: Assists in organizing and administering the department of nursing. Analyzes nursing and auxiliary services to improve quality of resident/patient care and obtain maximum utilization of staff time and abilities. Coordinates activities of the nursing service units to achieve and maintain efficient and competent nursing service and promote and maintain harmonious relationships among personnel managed, medical staff, residents/patients, and others. Participates in establishing and administering orientation and inservice training programs for professional and nonprofessional personnel. Ensures proper and economical use of equipment, supplies, and facilities for maintaining resident/patient care. Maintains quality assurance records, personnel records as needed, and directs maintenance of resident/patient care records. Cooperates with medical staff performing projects or studies as they affect nursing. Works with other agencies and groups in the community to promote the growth and broaden the knowledge and skills of the professional staff and improve the quality of facility services. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain the health care field. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Know administrative regulations of the health care field.
Other: Leadership skills in decision making, problem solving skills, and interpersonal relations. Additional workshops or courses in management topics including handling labor relations, problem solving, and planning. All licensed and non-licensed nursing services personnel. Direct supervision of Nursing Supervisors, Unit Managers and staff of assigned units.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures completion of Quality Assurance, MDS, Infection Control/Wound care, Inservicing, Staffing and Employee Health and ensures that day to day activities are being completed.
- Assists in organizing and administering the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Services department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations to ensure the highest degree of quality neighbor care on the nursing units.
- Participates in the development, maintenance and updating of written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day function of the nursing service department.
- Assists in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care.
- Makes daily rounds of the nursing services assigned units to ensure that all nursing service staff are performing their work assignments in accordance with appropriate nursing standards.
- Holds monthly Supervisor Meetings and evaluates Supervisors job performance.
- Monitors nursing service personnel to assure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
- Participates in the development and implementation of the procedures for the safe operation of all nursing service equipment.
- Prepares for surveys made by authorized government agencies.
- Assists in review, evaluation and making recommendations for changes in budget development for the nursing service department. Assists the Nurse Unit Managers in same.
- Holds monthly Unit Manager Meetings. Evaluates the job performance of the Unit Managers.
- Develops and implements appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies.
- Attends and participates in meetings, committees, workshops, professional and industry sponsored seminars, etc.
- Ensures that all quality assessment and assurance personnel are knowledgeable of the resident’s rights and responsibilities.
- Reviews all cases of alleged violations involving mistreatment, neglect or abuse, including injuries of unknown sources. Reviews all Accident and Incident reports and maintains ongoing tracking systems.
- Monitor snacks and nutritions to ensure residents receive in a timely manner.
- Monitor bowel movements on AIDEX to ensure compliance.
- Experience in a managerial capacity with demonstrated executive ability and leadership.Proficient in nursing standard of care skills.
- Identifying changes in condition and reporting of changes.
- Excellent customer service with on-going measured customer satisfaction.
- Providing compassionate and quality care.
- Multi-tasking and teamwork with Licensed Nurses, Rehabilitation Therapists and the Interdisciplinary Team.
- Has patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle situations.
- Willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices
- Properly assesses and evaluates and provides follow up for identified resident/patient/employee/visitor and outside concerns.
- Relates information concerning resident/patient/employee/visitor and outside conditions
- Treats residents/patients/employees/co-workers/outside contacts with respect, dignity, and compassion. Is confidential.
- Is cooperative and considerate to fellow employees. Is available and willing to assist as needed.
- Works flexible hours as necessary
Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure by the State Board of Nursing
- Excellent work ethic
- Must have demonstrated ability to make decisions with good nursing judgment, handle emergencies and maintain excellent patient assessment skill.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
- Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequatelyto assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met .
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
- Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility. Must be ableto lift, push, pull and move a minimum of 50 pounds. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
