ABOUT THE ORLEANS PARISH DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE (OPDA):
Jason Rogers Williams took office as the Orleans Parish District Attorney on January 11, 2021, and is building a 21st century prosecutors' office with a team of the best and brightest lawyers from around the country and a mission of being as smart on crime as the office has historically been tough on crime. New Orleans has led the world in convictions and incarceration for decades, without any corresponding decrease in crime. OPDA is simultaneously increasing safety and delivering justice with a laser focus on serious offense and a belief that every New Orleanian deserves the presumption of innocence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to seeking justice, preserving community safety, and making the criminal justice system better
- Perform the duties of a screening prosecutor, including assessing domestic violence reports, contacting victims, and making screening decisions on felony domestic violence offenses of varying levels of complexity.
- Maintain a caseload of high-risk domestic violence misdemeanor and felony cases and perform all necessary duties to shepherd the cases through the criminal justice system, including making appropriate plea offers, working with victims, preparing witnesses, collaborating with law enforcement, and interacting with defense attorneys.
- Present evidence, argue motions for bail on high risk cases
- Performs legal research as needed for the proper prosecution of felony cases
- Represent the District Attorney using professionalism and integrity in dealing with court officials, witnesses, members of the legal community and the general public.
- Establish, nurture, and improve relationships between the District Attorney's Office and the community
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Member of the Louisiana Bar in good standing
- Ability to conduct legal research and apply legal analysis to factual scenarios
- Public speaking ability and effective communication skills
- Comfort with technology, including ability to learn case management software
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some weeks of over 40 hours
- Dependability in both attendance and work product
BENEFITS:
Salary $62,00 - $68,000 commensurate with experience.
New ADA hires may be eligible for:
