The Assistant Kitchen Manager is responsible for assisting the Kitchen Manager in all kitchen functions, including but not limited to food purchasing, receiving, preparation and maintenance of quality standards, safety, sanitation and cleanliness.
The Assistant Kitchen Manager is responsible for the training of employees in connection those functions.
Job Duties
- Ensure that all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to the restaurant’s recipes, portioning, cooking and serving standards
- Responsible for ordering food products according to predetermined product specifications and received in correct unit count and condition and deliveries are received in accordance with the restaurant’s receiving policies and procedures
- Assisting the BOH Manager in controlling food cost and usage by following proper requisition of products from storage areas, product storage procedures, standard recipes and waste control procedures including checking and maintaining proper food holding and refrigeration temperature control points
- Fill in where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations
- Work with the General Manager and restaurant managers to plan and price menu items. Establish portion sizes and prepare standard recipe cards for all new menu items
- Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and kept in excellent working condition through personal inspection and by following the restaurant’s preventative maintenance program
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees the culinary experience at Taste Community Restaurant and executing our high standards.
- Provide support for kitchen team, including handling complaints and critical issues.
- Train kitchen team to perform all required duties, ensuring they have all tools needed to perform their duties to the fullest.
- Organize and supervise kitchen team. Keep them engaged and coach them on service and quality standards.
- Assist Kitchen Manager with managing food cost, shrink, waste, and product yields.
- Assist Kitchen Manager with managing prep schedules and food production.
- Assume the role of Kitchen Manager in their absence.
- Assure adherence to all standards of food quality, preparation, recipes, and presentation in conjunction with the specifications.

- Assure compliance with sanitation and safety regulations.
Qualifications
- 4+ years experience in culinary arts, restaurants or other related fields.
- Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interact and engage with a diverse population with compassion and patience.
- Food Manager Certification (training provided if hired).
- Willing and able to lift 50lbs. and be continuously on your feet and walking.
- Willing to undergo a background check.
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age.
- Candidate must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
