The Assistant Manager of Youth Programming is a full-time position and responsible for managing overall operations of the Camp Programs at all sites and assisting the Manager of Youth Programming with other youth programming to be provided including Swim School and Bridge Swim Program. The person in this position is a role model for staff, and exemplifies integrity and the other key characteristics we expect of our employees: commitment, respect, responsibility and cooperation. In addition, they are a mentor for sportsmanship and positive human development to staff and camp participants alike. In addition, this role may include some Human Resource/Hiring support for the Company.
The Assistant Manager of Youth Programming will be responsible for the overall management of the Camp programs at all sites and will supervise and develop Camp Counselors and Camp Leads. These duties include hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, and encouraging growth. The person will also be responsible for assisting the Manager of Youth Programming as needed to support the growth of other youth programming within the company throughout the year. This position may also serve as administrative support to the overall hiring of the Company in seasons other than summer.
Responsibilities also include interacting with Camp, Swim School and Bridge program participants, parents and the public. This includes problem-solving, information and guidance, and top-notch professional communication. The role requires working closely with Team Sheeper management, and requires maintaining a high level of knowledge of the programs outside of Team Sheeper Camps youth programs.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Improve established curriculum to increasingly better serve our customers and the community.
- Fostering development of new programs and our camp programs.
- Development, implementation, and monitoring of processes such as evaluations, registration, and communications.
- Budget development and oversight for Camp programs including efficient scheduling of staff
- Working closely with Marketing to introduce and develop new ways to promote all Camp Programs and other youth programs outside of Summer, and reach out to potential customers.
- Writing camp descriptions, welcome letters, email and other communications to the public.
- Full supervision and managerial responsibility for camps at all three current camp sites, and additional sites as they are added.
- Identifying and developing strategic plans for new business opportunities or innovations that can improve the profitability and quality of our services.
- Working with extended staff at Team Sheeper to encourage cross-program communication and support whole-family participation.
- Developing departmental policies aligned to our company policies and goals.
- Improving efficiency and streamlining processes.
- An awareness and appreciation of the costs and revenues for the youth programs, working with management to ensure viability of the business.
- Working closely with Service Center staff and the rest of Team Sheeper to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
- Developing and adhering to Risk Management procedures in alignment with Team Sheeper's safety policy, ensuring compliance with safety standards for all Camp staff and participants.
- Ensuring appropriate supplies and equipment are available and in a good working condition for camp use. This includes taking inventory and purchasing new supplies; and disposal of worn supplies.
- Motivating, coaching and mentoring camp counselors to ensure a dedicated, enthusiastic, and positive work environment for all involved.
- Represent the business and work with staff to follow corporate and department policies for example, dress code, and general staff behavior.
- Hiring appropriate staff for employment in camps including ensuring proper scheduling so the proper number of staff can be hired. Conducting interviews and making final hiring decisions.
- Attending senior management meetings, conveying staff opinions to management and conversely informing staff of management decisions.
- Assisting the Manager of Youth Programming throughout the year in the operations of other youth programming, including working shifts as a Deck Coordinator for Swim School on weekdays and Saturdays as needed..
Supervisory Responsibilities
The person in this position reports to the Manager of Youth Programming. It is anticipated that the Assistant Manager of Youth Programming will work collaboratively with other department managers and Service Center staff as needed. The person in this position supervises/manages/trains and schedules all camp leads and counselors during the summer, and other youth programming staff throughout the year.
Qualifications and Experience
- The Assistant Manager of Youth Programming must maintain certification in Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
- Fantastic communicator with demonstrated experience in working with a wide variety of audiences including, the public, staff, management, children and adults.
- Responsible energetic manager who enjoys working with children.
- Strong organizational and computer skills including excel, word etc.
- Experience working in a fluid, changing, or multifaceted environment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a positive attitude.
- Child development experience is preferred.
- Aquatics experience is preferred.
- Solid people management and development experience, including hiring, training, and evaluation
- Minimum three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum educational requirement is high school diploma.
- Must be willing to work at all three facilities depending on staffing and program needs. Other locations may be added in the future.
- Reliable transportation. Will be required to travel between sites.
Salary Range:
This position pays $68,000 per year to $82,000 per year
