About the Job
This position will rotate the different departments within the Shops to get experiential assignments/exposure to all aspects of the department, with an assigned mentor for each rotation.
- PM Team
- Learn best practices for safe & efficient heavy equipment maintenance while working with lead PM technicians
- Perform/assist with fluid & filter changes
- Sample fluids and analyze results
- Truck
- Learn best practices for safe & efficient medium & heavy truck repair and preventative maintenance
- Perform/assist with safety inspections; learn DOT and State Inspection requirements
- Perform/assist with repairs to maintain truck uptime, e.g. tires, brakes, air suspension, component changes, etc.
- Field (Paving & Dirt)
- Learn best practices for safe & efficient heavy equipment repair in a field operation
- Perform/assist lead mechanic with field repairs, e.g. undercarriage, G.E.T, teardown & assembly, etc.
- Field equipment includes dozers, excavators, articulated haulers, track & wheel loaders, pavers, rollers, support vehicles, etc
- Welding
- Learn best practices for safe & efficient maintenance welding repairs
- Assist lead welder with cutting, torching, fabricating, etc.
- Gain basic knowledge & experience with stick and wire welding & torch cutting
- Winter Rebuilds
- Learn best practices for safe & efficient repair & rebuild of paving equipment during winter
- Assist lead mechanic with cleaning, teardown, inspection, and parts ordering
- o Assist with re-assembly of paver wear item
Note: Some modules may run concurrent, e.g. welding, winter rebuild, and truck repair all occur in a shop setting

- AM Shops review (how we conduct business in our shops (how to order parts, supplies)
- Time Sheets
- Safety Courses
- AMU/CATU Courses (Hydraulic/Electrical, Undercarriage, etc.)
- OEM Training for Electronic Tooling programs (CAT SIS, Volvo Prosis, Cummins Insite, Paccar Davie, etc.)
Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or Trade School preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must be able to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel is preferred
- Ability to keep all sensitive material confidential.
- Ability to give and receive written or oral instructions.
- Must have ability to work independently.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to change
- Possess a can-do attitude
- Ability to work safely & wear required PPE, including safety helmet, safety glasses, safety gloves safety shoes, reflective clothing, & other specific PPE as required
