Job Details
The Assistant Nurse Manager for the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) will work closely with the Nurse Manager to oversee patient care and nursing services within the unit. This role involves supervising nursing personnel, managing daily operations, ensuring high-quality patient care, and fostering a collaborative and educational environment for staff development.
Supervision and Leadership:
- Supervise and direct nursing staff, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and Unit Clerks.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations for nursing staff.
- Assist in the hiring, training, and orientation of new staff members.
- Ensure staff compliance with clinical and administrative policies and procedures.
Operational Management:
- Oversee daily operations, ensuring adequate staffing and resource allocation.
- Coordinate schedules and assignments to meet patient care needs and workload demands.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., pharmacy, radiology) to resolve issues and improve workflow.
- Assist in the preparation, oversight, and monitoring of the unit's budget.
Patient Care:
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based patient care.
- Provide direct patient care as needed and support staff in clinical duties.
- Address patient and family concerns, ensuring service recovery when necessary.
- Monitor patient care standards and implement improvements as needed.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Liaise between the PACU and other healthcare professionals, including physicians, administrators, and pharmacists.
- Promote teamwork and effective communication within the unit and across departments.
- Participate in hospital committees and work groups to contribute to organizational goals.
Education and Development:
- Create a learning environment that supports staff development and skill enhancement.
- Facilitate clinical training and education updates for staff.
- Mentor preceptors and support the orientation process for new employees.
- Implement and teach new technologies and procedures as required.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Massachusetts.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Several years of experience working in a hospital or medical facility, with a focus on post-anesthesia care.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or charge nurse role preferred.
