About the Job
Primary Function: Responsible for the overall flow management and patient care activities on the nursing unit in accordance with the organizational and departmental philosophy and objectives. The unit clinical coordinator will be responsible for the delivery of nursing care on the unit and the timely patient flow activities for their assigned shift.
Responsibilities:
1. Assure that timely quality customer focused care is delivered to all patients in the department.
2. Evaluates and directs patient flow activities on the unit. In collaboration with the nursing supervisor expedites patient flow on the nursing unit and assuring timely patient flow throughout the facility. Has a working knowledge of the teletracking bed board system. Utilizes the system to assure timely admission and discharges occur on the nursing unit.
3. Problem solves, removes barriers and collaborates with the nurse director/ supervisor concerning patient care needs, timely admission and discharge from the nursing unit.
4. Oversees the delivery of care on the shift: directing and delegating patient care assignment to nursing staff based on clinical needs of the patient and matching appropriate budgeted staffing patterns to volume and acuity.
5. Evaluates individual nursing performance relating to clinical competencies and the overall quality of care on his or her shift. Assists the nurse director concerning staff performance for the preparation of individual staff performance appraisals. Participates in hiring and related staffing decisions. Has the authority to discipline where appropriate.
6. Investigates and assesses all customer complaints, problems and incidents, which occur on shift. Takes appropriate corrective action to resolve complaint. Reports all incidents and actions taken to the on shift supervisor and nurse director.
7. Assists the nurse director with identification of staff educational needs and works with the off shift educators to assure any educational needs are met on a timely basis. Is a clinical resource and role model for staff.
8. Informs the nurse director of any patient issues, unusual activities, staff concerns or unit problems. Assure all required reports are prepared and submitted to the appropriate administration.
9. During a community disaster, works with the administration on duty to assure that the hospital can respond to community disasters.
10. Makes recommendations to the nurse director concerning capital request items needed for the unit.
11. Assumes responsibility for own professional development, setting goals, and striving to achieve them through available resources, such as attending seminars, in-services and/or reading journals.
12. Through daily role modeling actively supports the goals of the unit and patient care services. Makes recommendations to the nurse director of any process changes that need to occur to assure that goals are met.
13. Administers direct patient care and maintains clinical skills for particular patient population
14. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Specifications: BSN required. RI State Nursing Licensure required as is graduation from an accredited nursing program. BLS required. A minimum of 2 years job related experience is required. Certification in administration or related specialty is preferred and required within two years of hire.
