Position Summary:
SUNY Ulster County Community College, a two-year branch of the State University of New York located ninety miles north of New York City in the Catskill Mountains, is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Professor in Business.Under the general supervision of the Department Chair, the Instructor will provide instruction in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and Governing Board policy; evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters, and perform other instructional related duties as assigned. The College would favor a candidate with experience as an area coordinator or department chairperson and/or a candidate prepared to teach accounting courses such as Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting and Principles of Accounting I&II. Preference will be given to candidates that can also teach core business courses such as Computer Applications, Marketing, Principles of Management, Human Resource Management and Entrepreneurship. Previous college teaching experience is required, including online teaching. Course and curriculum development is an expectation. Candidates must have a graduate degree in Business, Management, Organizational Behavior, Leadership or a related subfield.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Use and develop a variety of effective teaching and assessment methods to engage student interest and address a variety of learning styles.
- Develop curriculum to integrate multicultural perspectives.
- Integrate appropriate instructional technology into the classroom to enhance student learning
- Provide instruction in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and Governing Board policy; evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters, and perform other instructional-related duties as assigned.
- Meet each scheduled class in the modality established and teach or conduct learning exercises for the entire period.
- Contact the appropriate division chair or administrator in advance to decide for unavoidable absences.
- Provide each student at the beginning of the course with a written plan about the course, to include a full description of the grading system and how the student will be evaluated.
- Accurately keep required class records regarding students, including verification of attendance, withdrawal and grading.
- Submit when due, all necessary reports such as attendance and grade reports, roll books, and class information sheets, and certify as to their accuracy.
- Comply with all institutional policies and procedures.
- Serve as an academic advisor. Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services, programs, resources, and other professionals as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Business, Management, Organizational Behavior, Leadership or a related subfield.
- An ability/willingness to teach introductory and upper-level courses in business.
- A demonstrated commitment to applied learning and innovative teaching.
- A strong interest in teaching, mentoring, and working with undergraduate students.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and technology skills.
And
- Commitment to community college goals and objectives of providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as either an area coordinator or department chairperson in a college academic department.
- Experience with a Learning Management System, preferably Brightspace.
Salary:
An initial starting salary of $53,400 will be commensurate with education, training, and experience per academic year with an excellent benefits package. This position is contingent upon adequate funding.
