Position Overview

We seek a dynamic and passionate instructor to teach our Chemistry for Health Sciences course. This online course is part of the science core requirements for our Bachelor's degree. As an instructor, you will be key in fostering a supportive and engaging virtual learning environment. You will guide students throughout the course, helping them connect the dots between chemistry and its applications in holistic health fields such as nutrition, herbal medicine, and aromatherapy.

We are looking for someone who is not only knowledgeable in chemistry but also dedicated to student success in an online setting. The ideal candidate will be approachable, communicative, and enthusiastic about supporting learners of diverse backgrounds as they build confidence in their scientific understanding and their ability to apply it in real-world wellness contexts. Depending on your background, you may be eligible to teach other courses at the college.

ACHS is a learner-centric institution, and faculty are integral to the success of ACHS students and the academic integrity of ACHS programs. Faculty are responsible for all instruction in ACHS classes. Faculty use their professional experience and education coupled with curriculum provided in ACHS-published course materials, required publisher textbooks, and supplemental study aids (such as online videos, botanicals, essential oils, and other lab supplies) to teach the stated learning outcomes. 

The Work You'll Do in This Role

All faculty at ACHS engage our learners and participate in:

• Lecturing on class content (via video, live Zoom conferences, announcements, written lectures, audio  lectures, and discussion posts);
• Conducting office hours at least one hour per week; answering student questions online in the discussion boards; answering student questions posted to the Instructor’s Virtual Office;
• Answering student emails or phone calls;
• Grading assessments; and
• Contributing to curriculum review and development. 

Specifically, faculty at ACHS support the following teaching and learning activities:

• Engage in professional development, including completing the online ACHS Faculty Orientation, ongoing training provided by the institution, and annual continuing education.
• Support institutional effectiveness by completing course quality assurance reviews before the start of each semester, including a review of course learning outcomes and assessment.
• Contribute to academic planning and updates for the course(s) they are approved to teach and the programs that those courses support.
• Effectively teach and deliver ACHS curriculum, including supervising projects and capstone activities, service, and other administrative duties based on professional qualifications and regulatory approvals.
• Respond to student questions and comments in the class, within the learning management system (LMS), or via email, telephone, or other forms of communication within 24-48 hours.
• Provide timely feedback to students to ensure 24-48-hour response times to student discussion board postings, virtual office posts, emails, and other academic inquiries.
• Conduct weekly synchronous live lectures to support students in meeting the course and module learning outcomes and to comply with federal requirements for substantive interaction.
• Provide reasonable support to students before and after the course start and end dates, including students with Incomplete grades.
• Monitor student engagement and participation and tailor outreach to support students in coordination with ACHS student success coaches. 
• Respond to all ACHS administrative staff emails, phone calls, and other communications within 24-48 hours.
• Complete other faculty duties in collaboration with Program Deans.

Skills & Experience You Bring to ACHS

• At least two years of online teaching experience and subject matter expertise in teaching introductory chemistry. 
• Experience in an online learning platform such as Canvas, D2L, Moodle, Blackboard, etc.
• Proficiency with using technology such as videos, social media, and other interactive tools to engage learners.
• A commitment to and engagement in positively impacting social and environmental issues. 

Education Requirements

ACHS requires applicants to have a terminal professional degree in a related field to meet all state and accreditation requirements. Due to the specialized nature of the curriculum where a terminal degree may not be available, such as aromatherapy, ACHS also considers the following credentials:

Undergraduate professors: Master’s degree with 18+ graduate credit hours in the field they are teaching from a school accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized agency or a relevant terminal degree such as an ND, MD, DC, DO, or L.Ac. for healthcare courses with compensatory professional experience.

Graduate professors: Terminal degree in the field they teach from a school accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized agency or a relevant terminal degree such as an ND, MD, DC, DO, or L.Ac. for healthcare courses with compensatory professional experience.

Pay Rate 

Compensation per semester varies by class size and level (undergraduate or graduate). Assistant professor compensation per course (undergraduate level) begins at $2,100 and is adjusted based on class size and level of course.

Work Environment

This job can be completed remotely or in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a sedentary role; position requires prolonged standing or sitting and may also include bending, stooping, or stretching. Position also requires prolonged use of a computer.
