Job Summary
Geisinger’s Center for Pharmacy Innovation & Outcomes and Center for Kidney Health Research are seeking to expand their research program by adding a talented and motivated Pharmacist with a focus on Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic Health. The ideal candidate will enjoy a baseline minimum 75% protected research time along with dedicated research support staff including project management and biostatistical support. The candidate will have the opportunity to leverage unique assets for research including more than 25 years of longitudinal electronic health records data, a large health system-based >200k exome sequencing study (MyCode), and access to Geisinger’s health plan administrative claims data. The candidate will also tap into Geisinger’s highly advanced, integrated and growing team of pharmacists with over 350 pharmacists in hospital, ambulatory and health plan practicing at the top of their licenses with collaborative practice agreements. Geisinger’s reputation for innovation and substantial investment in health information technology since 1996 offers an unparalleled opportunity for pharmacy practice research, comparative effectiveness research, health economic analysis, implementation and translational research and observational analyses, within a research culture that emphasizes rapid clinical deployment and pragmatic testing of promising research innovations. The Center for Pharmacy Innovation & Outcomes (CPIO) is led by Dr. Wright and founded in 2015 as a strategic partnership between Geisinger enterprise Pharmacy and Geisinger’s Research Institute. The CPIO brings together a diverse group of fully dedicated faculty, clinical faculty, staff scientists, project management and analytical staff along with a multitude of undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral learners who are embedded within the clinical and operational teams within Geisinger. Our research spans across conditions, including cardiometabolic conditions, substance use, specialty pharmacy, geriatrics, hematology/oncology, pharmacogenomics, pharmacoepidemiology and transitions of care. The CPIO’s vision is to innovate and learn from investigations that optimize medications for populations. With over $15 million in external funding from federal, NGOs and industry and average publications of over 25 per year, the CPIO is a highly productive unit both in terms of scholarly metrics and impact to our patients and health system. The Center for Kidney Health Research (CKHR): Co-led by Dr. Chang and Dr. Green, the CKHR is dedicated to decreasing the burden of kidney disease through a clinic-based, patient-oriented research program in a learning healthcare system environment. Active areas of research interest and opportunity for pharmacist investigators include: telehealth pharmacist co-management of hypertension, cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome, pharmacoepidemiology, genetics of CKD. Resources include research data analyst support, project manager, project coordinators, and a research assistant. CKHR investigators have active funding from the NIH, PCORI, the National Kidney Foundation and include faculty members in the Department of Genomic Health and Hospital Medicine with active national and international collaborations.
Job Duties
+ Directs day-to-day development, maintenance, and supervision of a productive and nationally competitive research program.
+ Directs and supervises members of the research group providing technical and intellectual leadership.
+ Identifies the research question, formulates the hypothesis, plans the experiments, records the observations and data, analyzes the data, and draws conclusions.
+ Prepares and submits applications for external funding from national agencies.
+ Oversees completion of the specific aims of funded projects.
+ Prepares completed work for publication.
+ Publishes/presents research results in both informal and formal seminars within the organization and to extramural audiences at national and international meetings and academic institutions.
+ Collaborates with other investigators and physicians as well as with investigators from other institutions.
+ Demonstrates institutional service by participation on committees.
+ Provides technical assistance in service to other departments, clinical associates, residents, fellows and students.
+ Begins developing a record of national and international service in the field of expertise by memberships in grant review panels, editorial boards and journal reviews.
