Overview
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Utah State University invites applications from outstanding candidates for a Academic Year (9 Mo) tenure-track position in theoretical and computational chemistry at the Assistant Professor level estimated to start in August of 2024. The successful applicant will develop an externally funded research program in computational chemistry; preference will be given to applicants with research interests in the areas of renewable energy, materials and interface chemistry, and quantum sensing and information. Applicants must have earned a PhD in Chemistry or a closely related discipline; postdoctoral experience in computational chemistry is preferred. The position requires the development of a nationally recognized, externally funded, research program and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The teaching responsibilities will include physical chemistry courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Evaluation of applications will begin November 1, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled.
Responsibilities
* Develop an innovative, externally funded research program which achieves a strong national reputation for excellence in the field
* Participate effectively in undergraduate and graduate teaching, primarily in physical chemistry
* Engage effectively in service, for example, graduate student supervisory committee and Departmental/College/University committee service
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
* PhD in chemistry or a closely related discipline
* Research program in computational chemistry
* Experience/training in the areas of physical chemistry
* Ability to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program involving postdocs and graduate and undergraduate students
* Excellent track record of publishing in top scientific journals
* Ability to teach effectively in undergraduate and graduate courses, including upper division physical chemistry courses
* Excellent spoken and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
* Post-doctoral (Academic, National Laboratory, or Industrial) research experience in computational chemistry, particularly in the areas of renewable energy, materials and interface chemistry, and quantum sensing and information.
* A strong track record of significant scholarly publications
* Evidence of effective teaching or mentoring
