Overview
The Utah State University Department of Theatre Arts seeks a dynamic artist-teacher of Costume Design. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position. Review of applications begins February 1, 2024, and continues until filled. The position start date is August 1, 2024.
Responsibilities
* Candidates for this tenure-track position will be expected to demonstrate ongoing commitment and engagement in creative theatrical practice in their area of expertise by maintaining a creative/scholarly profile that is consistent with their national peer group. The department seeks individuals with strong professional networking resources that will benefit MFA and BFA design students.
* This position is the primary teacher and mentor for the BFA/MFA Costume Design degree concentrations. Responsibilities include teaching, recruiting, and administration of the costume design program within the Design/Tech (DT) area of the Department of Theatre Arts.
* Teaching costume design/costume history curriculum.
* In consultation with colleagues, determination of student costume designer assignments for department productions.
* Mentoring student designers through tech and dress rehearsals; periodic evening and weekend attendance required.
* Service as Artistic Associate of Costume Design for the Lyric Repertory Company - USUs professional summer repertory company - including an annual design opportunity.
* Possible design assignments for departmental mainstage productions.
* Possible course assignments in an additional area of expertise, per applicant strengths and department needs.
* Participate in department, college, and university service.
* Provide national, state, and local service to the profession.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
* MFA in Costume Design with professional costume design experience at the regional level or higher.
* Demonstrated track record of ability to collaborate with students, faculty, and staff on designs for mainstage productions in a student-centered environment.
* Minimum one year of teaching experience at the university level.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Three years teaching experience at a university with evidence of successful recruitment and teaching.
* Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations including diversity of gender identity and cultural background.
