The Performing Arts Division provides collaborative, rigorous, and contemporary programs across Dance, Music, Performance Design and Technology, and Theatre. The Performing Arts Division at Alfred University is seeking a dynamic and innovative Band Director and Instructor of Music to join our faculty. This full-time, tenure-track position will involve conducting the university's concert band and jazz band, leading other instrumental ensembles as needed, and teaching courses in various music disciplines. We are looking for a candidate with a passion for music education and the versatility to engage students across a wide range of musical genres and skills.
Salary:$55,000-$58,000 Annually

Responsibilities:
- Direct the Alfred University Concert Band and Jazz Band
- Actively recruit and develop the instrumental music program
- Direct and coach other instrumental ensembles as needed, fostering a vibrant, positive, and collaborative musical environment
- Teach academic courses within the Music Curriculum, such as, but not limited to, Music Theory, World Music, Popular Music, Songwriting and Arranging, according to the candidate's areas of interest
- Teach Applied Lessons - in area of candidate's expertise
- Collaborate with faculty in the Performing Arts Division and across campus to enhance the music program and facilitate and support interdisciplinary initiatives within the Bachelor of Arts degrees and the new Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees (to start fall 2025)
- Collaborate with the Production Manager regarding maintaining the Performing Arts musical inventory
- Mentor and guide students in their academic and artistic development, ensuring a supportive and inclusive learning environment
- Participate actively in department, college, and university service, including student recruitment, curriculum development, and committee work
- Engage in ongoing professional development, research, and creative activities that contribute to the advancement of the field and the reputation of the department
- Master's degree in music is required; a Doctorate is preferred
- Proven experience in conducting concert bands and jazz ensembles at the college level
- Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of music courses, including, but not limited to, World Music, Popular Music (Songwriting and Arranging)
- A strong commitment to teaching excellence and student engagement
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a diverse, inclusive community
- A record of creative and scholarly activity in the field of music
