Job Description
Old Dominion University’s Department of Educational Leadership & Workforce Development seeks applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor to support the undergraduate Training Specialist program and graduate Workforce & Organizational Development program. Candidates with expertise in human resource development and training, instructional systems and learning technologies, workforce development, and industrial-organizational psychology are encouraged to apply. This is a 10-month appointment beginning July 25, 2025 with opportunities for summer employment.
Responsibilities include:
+ Producing high-quality research for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
+ Seeking external funding opportunities and developing and submitting grants in support of a research agenda.
+ Teaching and developing undergraduate and graduate level online courses.
+ Advising students and directing doctoral student coursework and research.
+ Participating in initiatives directed toward program and departmental growth and development.
The Assistant Professor will also be responsible for developing workforce development articulation agreements with business and industry, healthcare, government, educational institutions, etc. All faculty in the Darden College of Education and Professional Studies are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness and a willingness to work in a multicultural setting, as well as a commitment to participating in program governance and decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities
Minimum Qualifications - Education or training
A Ph.D. or Ed.D. is required in a field related to Human Resource Development-Training, Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies, Workforce & Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational psychology, or equivalent that will enable the candidate to specialize in an area of research, teaching, and service.
Minimum Qualifications - Special licenses, registration or certification
+ Evidence of scholarly activity (grants, publications, presentations, etc.)
+ A well-developed research agenda.
+ Demonstrated ability to assume teaching responsibilities both in face-to-face and distance learning contexts, effectively incorporating technology in both.
+ Demonstrated ability to contribute to a culture of collaboration, inclusion, equity, and diversity.
+ Established teaching philosophy and demonstrated potential for effective postsecondary instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Previous college teaching and/or business and industry experience in the following fields: business and industry training/adult education; organizational and workforce development; organizational performance improvement; instructional design, methods, and technologies; program evaluation and assessment; project management, consulting, and data mining; and learning analytics.
+ Experience in delivering online courses in different modalities is preferred, e.g., synchronous, asynchronous, and blended.
+ 3-5 years of experience in a full-time and/or adjunct faculty position in a Higher Education or Student Affairs graduate program.
+ At least 3 publications in refereed scholarly or professional journals.
+ Active engagement and/or leadership in higher education or related professional associations.
+ Receipt of funding as a PI or Co-PI on research or service grant(s).
+ Service on master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation committees.
+ Evidence of higher education student advising experience.
+ Evidence of the ability to work collaboratively with others in a higher education context.
