Assistant Coach for STUNT and Cheer

St. Edward's University of Austin, Texas invites applications for the position of Assistant STUNT and Cheer Coach. The Assistant STUNT and Cheer Coach will support the head coach in developing the foundation for the NCAA Division II STUNT program and building a program respected for its commitment to the mission and core values of St. Edward's University. St. Edward's University will begin competition in the 2024-25 academic year. The assist coach will support all aspects of the STUNT and Cheer programs.
The assistant coach supports the head coach in all aspects of the STUNT and Cheer programs, including creating and communicating the vision of a program seeking to reach unprecedented levels of success. Successfully organizing and implementing a comprehensive recruiting and retention plan, supporting student-athlete success in all areas of the student experience, and integrating the program into the campus community. Supervising practice and managing competitions, management of resources provided by the University which supports the essential components of the program and is actively involved in fundraising to enhance resources for the program
For consideration:
- Baccalaureate degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Education, Fitness or related program; Master's Degree preferred.
- One year of stunt, cheer, or gymnastics coaching experience at the professional, college or high school level; or three years of participation at professional or college level.
- Knowledge of and experience in recruiting
- Evidence of working/relating effectively with student-athletes of diverse races and cultures
- As a part of the job responsibilities associated with this position, knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA, USA Cheer and the Lone Star Conference should be maintained, reviewed and practiced to ensure compliance.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, administrative, and organizational skills.
- Possession of a valid unencumbered driver's license and the ability to travel both locally and nationally
- Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal background check is required.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist the head coach with coaching and administrative duties for the STUNT and Cheer programs.
- Actively assist in the planning and direction of the overall practice strategy for both the STUNT and Cheer teams: Run aspects of practice to include instructing student-athletes in specific techniques.
- Make strategic decisions in contest situations.
- Travel nationwide for competition and recruiting.
- Counsel student-athletes concerning academic progress.
- Assist in the overall recruiting strategy and implementation of evaluating, identifying and recruiting quality student-athletes; correspondence with prospective student athletes.
- Assist with equipment purchase and organization.
- Assist with camp operations and fundraising.
- Assist in oversight of team travel keeping budget considerations in mind.
- Chronicle and report NCAA required data to the athletic compliance office.
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
