Harrison Steel is hiring a Foundry Superintendent,who willoversee and coordinate the day to day activitiesinvolved in theproduction ofsteel castings,with a focus on safety, quality and productivity. This individual manages up to 24 supervisors, who lead hourly employees in molding and pouring steel castings. Position reports to the Director of Operations.
The successfulcandidate will have 10 years or more of Foundry experience, and a good understanding of the sand castings process. Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering required. Also required: Previous experience as a supervisoror manager.Expert levelproficiency in MicrosoftExcel and PowerPoint.
The individual should be familiar with preparation and creation of sand molds and cores, sand testing, melting and pouring of molten metal, and the shakeout process. The individual directs, coordinates and evaluates all units responsible for these duties and overall Foundry production.
We prefer a Six Sigma Black Belt and in-depth knowledge in Statistical Process Controls. It is important to note that standardization within our industrial steel foundry is sometimes limited, due to our focus on low volume, specialized castings. Many orders number below 10 parts per year. Quality always takes priority over lean processes and methods.
The best candidate has the ability to incorporate varying degrees of lean principles where lean practices cannot be implemented.
The individual also must possess genuine ability to handle and work with people, and must perform well under pressure, on a regular basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee production of the daily Foundry schedule and make necessary changes due to production or customer demands.
- List daily samples on the Foundry schedule.
- Maintain schedules for bothhourly and salaried personnel, and make necessary changes, based upon available employees, using a computerized time and attendance system. Also verify and correct attendance on a weekly basis.
- Maintain an open door policy for any and all Foundry and Foundry personnel problems.
- Interview and train employees; plan, assign and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.
- Delegate the following tasks to an assistant: List daily sample pouring results in the database. Maintain database of Molding and Pouring scrap.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.The noise level is usually moderate in the office and loud in the Foundry. Our Production buildings arenot climate controlled.Temperatures reach 100 degrees inside the facility on many summer days anddrop well below 20 degreesin the winter.
