Associate Attorney

We are looking for an attorney who can handle a catastrophic injury-focused caseload and who is accustomed to high exposure. With the support of our experienced paralegals, you will be responsible for all aspects of litigation.
This includes but is not limited to drafting complaints, drafting and responding to discovery, regularly meeting and communicating with clients for medical management, case evaluation, and strategies. You will also maintain an active case list with statuses of cases, take and defend depositions, hire and designate experts, and prepare for and try cases to verdict.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Co-manage 8-20 catastrophic personal injury cases with a Partner, handling smaller cases with minimal oversight.
- Direct and assist staff in daily case management and investigations for pre-litigation and litigation.
- Provide availability for case managers to review matters for attorney approval.
- Evaluate cases for valuation and early resolution.
- Develop and execute litigation plans through trial.
- Identify, retain, and prepare medical/legal experts for trial.
- Maintain client and staff communication throughout the claim and litigation.
- Conduct legal research and prepare relevant court documents.
- Manage written discovery, including drafting meet and confer letters.
- Prepare clients for depositions and hearings; take and defend depositions.
- Handle law and motion, mediation, and court appearances.
- Prepare cases for trial, including all trial documents and witness examinations.
- Conduct monthly file reviews with team members and participate in reviews with the PI Managing Attorney(s).
- Oversee liability investigations and manage medical aspects of PI cases, including reviewing medical reports and recommendations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Juris Doctorate and active CA State Bar membership are required.
- 2-6 years of experience in a law firm's Personal Injury department.
- Strong interpersonal skills and compassion for Personal Injury clients.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Familiarity with Workers’ Compensation terminology.
- Acute knowledge of medical and legal experts, mediators, judges, and arbitrators.
- Proficient in health insurance issues, including Medi-Cal, Medi-Care, and Kaiser.
- Skilled in settling cases for full value, both pre-litigation and litigation.
- Experienced in handling "problematic" clients and determining when to file suits.
- Expertise in negotiating medical liens and identifying high/low-value cases.
- Knowledgeable of statute deadlines and government claim timelines.
- Able to actively investigate cases, including on-site visits and witness interviews.
- Familiar with worker's compensation and uninsured/underinsured motorist cases.
- Expertise in premises liability cases, including liability arguments and case development.
- Proficient in MS Office and online research tools.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
- Base Compensation: $120,000 - $190,000 (D.O.E.)
- Plus Commission Pay/Attorney Fees
