Compensation:$80,000 - $100,000 salary plus quarterly bonuses
Responsibilities:- Provide legal representation and support to clients in Rochester, NY, navigating family legal matters, including divorce, child custody, spousal support, adoption, and other family law issues
- Conduct thorough legal research and prepare various legal documents such as petitions, motions, and settlement agreements specifically for family law and divorce cases
- Represent clients in court proceedings, which involve hearings and trials, to advocate for their rights and interests in family law and divorce matters
- Offer client counseling services by giving guidance on legal rights, responsibilities, and potential outcomes related to family law and divorce cases
- Manage a caseload focused on family law and divorce cases, ensuring consistent communication with clients regarding case updates
- Engage in negotiation sessions to facilitate settlements outside of court and participate in mediation for alternative dispute resolution
- Collaborate with the Regional Managing Attorney to foster a supportive work environment and provide mentorship to a team of legal professionals
- Travel to various courts and proceedings in and around Rochester, NY, with occasional travel to Albany and Saratoga Springs as needed
- Meet the firm's billable hour requirements and work closely with the billing department to ensure accurate client billing
- Candidates with at least 1 year of experience in family matrimonial cases are preferred for this position
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in general litigation is mandatory
- Applicants must have an active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar, with additional memberships in other state bars being advantageous
- Previous experience in private law firms, corporate, or government settings is desirable though not mandatory
- Proficiency in handling sensitive legal matters like divorce, child custody, domestic violence, and matrimonial disputes is a critical requirement
- Thorough knowledge of the New York Family Court Act and Domestic Relations Law is essential
- Excellent skills in writing, editing, and proofreading are expected from candidates
- Strong organizational abilities, follow-through, and flexibility in managing changing priorities and deadlines are required
- A positive and collaborative attitude is necessary for effective teamwork
- Ability to resolve interpersonal conflicts and support employee growth goals is crucial
- Candidates should be adept at advocating effectively in both court and office settings while maintaining composure in high-stress litigation matters
- Demonstrating empathy, humility, patience, and professionalism in interactions with colleagues and clients from diverse backgrounds is vital
- Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is a prerequisite for this role
- Successful completion of a background check is a must
