Associate Chief Nursing Officer, Cayuga Health System

Summary: Reports to the System Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) to assist in creating an environment where nurses deliver highly reliable care. The ACNO, Acute Care Services assists in creating strategic priorities in partnership with the CNE and other members of the senior leadership team. The ACNO has responsibility, accountability, and authority to lead acute nursing services at Cayuga Medical Center and Schuyler Hospital. These responsibilities include direct oversight and responsible for the daily operations in the nursing care areas at Cayuga Medical Center and Schuyler Hospital. Inclusive of all areas that perform nursing care.

• Medical/Telemetry Services
• Critical Care & Dialysis Services (shared system)
• Maternal & Child Health (shared system)
• Surgical Services and procedural nursing care
• Inpatient Therapy, & Post Medical Rehabilitation

This position prioritizes efforts to sustain an elevated patient experience. They utilize emerging trends, and a robust understanding of the organization's vision, mission and goals to direct the strategic planning, organization, leadership, service delivery, performance improvement, evaluation of the nursing/clinical standards of performance. The position is responsible for innovative planning in all aspects of practice and monitoring practice. The ACNO is responsible for the creation and implementation of patient care programs, policies, and standards of care. Also, in the formulation and achievement of designated objectives and goals through strategic planning, financial operations, performance improvement, and employee management. They play a key role in maintaining organizational accreditations, and sourcing new technologies and strategies to improve patient care, efficiency, and staff engagement. The ACNO leads across the continuum of care to achieve better collaboration that accomplishes improved quality, reliability, and the efficiency of care delivery.

Assesses patient care technology utilization, maximization and optimization. Partners with IT and ePMO teams when opportunities are identified. (Inclusive of EMR platform, dashboards, benchmarking, productivity)

Consistently manages department or program performance against fiscal plans and utilizes productivity tools and conducts in depth analyses to ensure efficient processes. Engages in strategy for retention of leaders by addressing burnout and performance ambiguity.

• Quality and Patient Satisfaction

Leads the nursing areas of responsibility to meet or exceed quality and patient satisfaction standards, as well as additional goals set forth by the organization. Develops, monitors, analyzes and employs strategies to improve divisional outcomes and to promote high reliability and accountability in clinical practice. Partners with physician leaders and demonstrates leadership to achieve highly reliable care delivery processes. Integrates system-wide outcomes into the framework of clinical effectiveness to elevate patient care delivery and patient safety.

• Director, Surgical Nursing, Therapy, & Rehabilitation Services

Direct Report Oversight:

• Oversight of acute nursing practice, standards and clinical excellence at CMC & Schuyler Hospital
• Ensures nursing departments remain within budget targets for volumes, revenue, expenses and FTE's
• Ensures assigned nursing leaders meet or exceed identified KPI's annually
• Ensures nursing leaders identify & take action on Areas for Improvement (AFIs)
• Ensures nursing leaders meet Financial Transformation (FOTx) expectations
• Ensures nursing leaders meet turnover standards set annually by the organization(s)
• Ensuring assigned nursing leaders develop & implement actionable tactics in response to employee surveys, or other feedback tools, that the organization utilizes for measuring workforce engagement and satisfaction
• Ensuring assigned nursing leaders adhere to productivity targets that are aligned with industry standards and best practice for their respective areas

Required Skills and Experience:

• Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
• A Master's degree required (MSN, MBA, MHA, or leadership focused)
• RN License in the State of New York
• 8-10 years of acute care hospital experience as a Registered Nurse
• Minimum of 5 years of hospital leadership experience as a manager or director

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Certification in nursing leadership preferred

Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., Use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 pounds), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.

Location and Travel Requirements:

• Onsite at the acute care facilities of CHS (Cayuga Medical Center & Schuyler Hospital)
• 60%/40% Cayuga Medical Center & Schuyler Hospital

Pay Range Disclosure:

• $222,000 to $250,000 annually
