Position Summary:
The Stravitz-Sanyal Liver Institute at VCU is seeking anAssociate Director of Clinical Trials. The candidate will be an integral memberof the leadership team within the Institute.
The Associate Director of Clinical Trials is responsible forassuming primary oversight, coordination, and managerial responsibilities forthe clinical trials at SSLI. The Associate Director of ClinicalTrials reports to the Chief Operations Officer.
Core Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Management of Clinical Research Coordinators (Work Effort: 50%)
-Provide supervision and delegation of work assignments and evaluation of the Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs)
-Posts/justifies new and replacement positions, screens applicants.
-On-boards and trains staff (protocol, university, departmental training).
-Conducts annual staff performance reviews (including establishing and continually monitoring FY goals).
-Monitors, directs, and supervises staff in a manner that facilitates efficient level of operations.
-Determines CRC workloads and protocol assignments
-Assures the subject data collected by the CRCs is organized and submitted in a timely manner.
-Ensures CRC’s are adequately prepared for and successfully manage all monitoring and/or auditing visits
Clinical Trials Operations: Collaboration, Evaluation, andDevelopment (Work Effort 10%)
-Collaborates with SSLI and VCU Health clinical teams in the daily operations for all research clinics to include facilitating participant flow and coordination of all activities and communication for the research team.
-May be required to assist with duties provided by an RN for research participants such as IV starts, vitals, blood draws, etc. as needed.
Clinical Trials: Assessment, Evaluation, and Development(Work Effort 40%)
-Continually assessing trial complexity/workload and resource allocation to ensure patient safety and clinical research excellence
-Implementing processes and that improve, streamline, and stimulate the work environment
-Assist the Leadership Team in developing, implementing, and executing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
-Develop standardized forms, study tools, and promote cross-coverage with Leadership to ensure coverage, provide appropriate staff updates, in-services, trainings, etc.
-Provides protocol management and research expertise by participating in discussions pertinent to projects at collaborative research meetings.
-Organizes projects and collaborates with multidisciplinary team and other health care personnel as needed to complete assigned tasks.
-Ensuring and promoting positive relationships and outcomes with private industry and other external agencies.
-Attends regularly scheduled conferences and meetings
-Serves as a resource and leader for participants, CRC’s, and PI’s, research staff in collaboration with the health system’s ambulatory clinic manager and staff.
MinimumHiring Standards:
-Bachelors of Science in Nursing from accredited nursing program or Bachelors degree in healthcare or research related fields
-Certification as a Clinical Research Professional through a national accrediting body
-Minimum ten years’ experience in clinical research
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Masters of Nursing from accredited nursing program or Masters degree in healthcare or research related fields
