The Job: The Associate Director, Foundation Relations is responsible for managing the Center's foundations fundraising program, with a portfolio of over 40 funders (providing 60-70 annual grants). The Associate Director will develop and maintain a highly engaging cultivation and stewardship program to ensure that existing foundation donors are properly stewarded and benefit from a close relationship with the Center and staff. The Associate Director will oversee the writing of compelling donor communications including grant proposals and reports and other donor materials and will ensure their timely submission. S/he will work with the Leadership of the Development team to meet annual revenue targets for foundation fundraising and to ensure the Center's ability to sustain its current foundations revenue. The Associate Director will oversee a team of two staff: a Senior Manager for Corporate and Foundation Relations and a Manager, Foundation Relations.
This position is to be based in New York City or Washington, D.C. This position will also require some travel domestically and perhaps internationally, approximately 1-2 trips a quarter. Covid-19 vaccination is required for all US-based employees of the Center.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversee the foundation funding portfolio, including managing a portfolio of donors while also managing other frontline fundraisers.
- Help set and meet annual and multiyear revenue goals, monitor foundation fundraising
projections, and liaise with key teams, such as Development Operations and Finance. - Oversee the development of proposals and reports for all foundations, developing case
rationales for proposals and overseeing the preparation of support materials to
accompany submissions. - Oversee foundation donor data analysis and tracking systems for donor and revenue
information, including in Raiser's Edge. - Attend inter-departmental meetings and build relationships with the Center's program staff, communications staff, and others to acquire the information needed to engage funders and steward grants effectively.
- Manage two fundraisers (Senior Manager for Corporate and Foundation Partnerships and Manager, Foundation Relations) to effectively meet their revenue goals.
- Assist with other fundraising projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree is required.
- 12-15 years of fundraising experience with institutional donors.
- Proven experience in leading successful proposal development, securing 6-figure grants from major foundation donors.
- Ability to work professionally in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail,
accuracy and pacing. - Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with capacity to receive and
accept constructive feedback. - Understanding of and commitment to the Center's mission.
- High level of discretion and sensitivity to donor confidentiality issues
Compensation: The annual salary for this position is $152,000. This salary reflects a position based in New York City or Washington, D.C. This salary will be subject to a downward locality adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside the location listed in this posting. Note that most of the salaries listed on our job postings reflect New York, NY salaries, where our National offices are headquartered.
Union Status: This position is not covered by the Center's Collective Bargaining Agreement.
FLSA Exempt Status: This is an exempt position.
